Bhutto exposes Mujib's plan to secede

Rawalpindi, April 5 (APP): Mr. Bhutto said on Friday that he had insisted on the west wing majority party sharing power with the Awami League at the centre because he did not trust intentions of Sheikh Mujib and his party vis-a-vis country's integrity. Addressing a press conference the PPP chairman said he had informed the president about his views during his meetings with him.

Mr. Bhutto said he was for checkmating Sheikh Mujib's intentions and he did not see that being done by these small little parties which had already "capitulated and surrendered" to him.

He said he had asked who would there be in Government to checkmate the destruction of the foreign policy edifice which had been built over the last 23 years, prevent Tashken agreement not coming to its conclusion, to see development taking place in the four provinces of West Pakistan and also to prevent constitutional session of East Pakistan and dismemberment of the country. Mr. Bhutto said he did not see it in any of them (small parties).

He said on the basis of merit there being two wings of the country, majority of the two wings must share power. However, in this particular situation  he wanted to put a barrier against Sheikh Mujib's escalation towards session.

Awami League activities from March 21 to 25 were enough to remove any doubts and made it clear even to the innocent that Sheikh Mujib wanted to establish a separate, independent, racist and fascist state in East Pakistan,

After gradual escalation, Sheikh Mujib had finally come out openly in true colours. He had been saying that he was the only link which remained between East and West Pakistan and this was echoed in this wing but one of "our simpletons".

Mr. Bhutto said that he met the president on March 21 in Dacca, and was informed that Sheikh Mujib had proposed a new plan, namely, lifting of ML, issuing of proclamation giving interim constitution and power to be transferred in the provinces in the interim period.

Mujib wanted that the proclamation should divide the NA into two committees which should meet separately. The NA would later tie up the reports to be submitted by these committee, and that East Pakistan should have the autonomy on the basis of six points.

He said that the PPP wanted the NA should first meet and determine federal subjects.

Instead of responding the AL took the extreme step of hoisting "Bangla Desh "flags on March 23, humiliated the national flag and held march past with weapons while talks were taking place.

Later the AL escalating demands changed from two committees to two convention ideas.

Meanwhile, the AL declared March 27 as the day of general strike which was a blind stand  meant to distract attention. They in fact intended to strike on March 26 with the declaration of Independence.
