Islamabad, April 23 (APP): Open rift between the now defunct AL leadership and its armed supporters in East Pakistan has been reported by an American news agency APA.

By so doing they have caused much resentment among the deserters of the East Pakistan Rifles and the East Bengal Regiment who have borne the brunt of whatever fighting there has been with the Pakistan Army, the agency added.
The agency also quoted one captain Gyasuddin Choudhury whom it described as the leader of the Bangla Desh defence of the border town of Rajshahi, as saying that AL leaders promised him everything he wanted but he got nothing as these leaders were more concerned with meetings than fighting along with him on the battle front.
We are being killed because everyone wants to be important, he said. I find it hard to trust any of them, he declared.
According to APA, such remarks by East Bengalis about acting leaders of AL are common today.

Condemning the external infiltrators and interventionists, they declared we do not want any infiltration and intervention from any outside agency of any foreign power. Outlining the stand of the EPFL, the provincial labour organisation confederated to APCOL, the statement said.
The organised workers under the leadership of APCOL (All Pakistan Confederation of Labour) with its two active wings East Pakistan Federation of Labour and West Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions are determined to maintain and safeguard the integrity of Pakistan and resolve to contribute to restore harmony and peace in East Pakistan. Our Federation's motto and guideline which was accepted unanimously both by the General Council of EPFL, and APCOL and which has been followed by all our branches in practice even during the political turmoil, is that politics should not interfere in the trade union platform because our fight is economic fight and if there is politics in it the fight between the different political parties in any union will destroy the unity of the workers.
Last year's events have proved our faith. We, therefore, reiterate that solidarity and discipline among the workers is essential to maintain their unity and integrity for the stability of the society and country. We condemn infiltration and intervention from any outside agency or any foreign power. We, workers of movement of the world believe that unity is strength. So we representing the largest number of organised workers of East Pakistan believe that unity of all people and every component part of country and its community is its strength.
Our struggle is economic struggle and it is a continued struggle we will pursue but not through war and conflicts because they bring disaster and suffering to the workers and the common man. People's suffering may end only when there is peace and economic prosperity at all levels of the society. To gain this we shall have to contribute our share. If mills and factories , which are based on our agricultural products are closed and production suffers, the rich will not feel the pinch but the poor, the workers and the peasants only suffer.
We are determined to rehabilitate our economy. Govt. employees and the workers all should come forward to share the cause of the nation with full vigour.
