Outlawed AL had no mandate for break up of Pakistan

Karachi, May 30 (APP): It is established that the outlawed AL had no mandate from the people of East Pakistan for what Sheikh Mujib subsequently did. The mandate was only for provincial autonomy and not for the break up of Pakistan.

The AL agitation that followed and was to climax on March 26, was more than just a movement for provincial autonomy. It was a bid for independence. I based on elaborate planning and backed by imported arms and soldiers from India disguised as civilians.

We shall soon be analysing the motives that propelled India to act the way it did.

For the world continues to find it most extraordinary and even fantastic that the very country and the very people who have done their worst to strangulate Pakistan and in particular our eastern province should have the effrontery overnight to profess great love for the people of East Pakistan and publicly pose as their self-appointed protector.

If we analyse India's conduct, we shall find from the confessions of India-leaders and newspapers themselves that India's action in East Pakistan was designed to secure not the welfare of the people of East Pakistan but to buttress her own position and expand her own political and economic tentacles in the region.

But before we do that we would like to correct an impression sediciously fostered by India and picked up by some organs of opinions in the western world . What happened in East Pakistan was an internal affairs of Pakistan a law and order situation which was promptly brought under control. It was an attempt by a small but determined minority, with Indian armed support to break away from Pakistan. No Central Govt anywhere in the world has ever permitted or would even allow the dismemberment of the country by an armed minorities.

For instance, we can turn to Canada, Northern Ireland, Nigeria, Congo, the Sudan and, of course , India herself. In all these areas the Central Govt. have thwarted attempts at secession by armed minorities. Therefore what took place in East Pakistan was not a civil war or a war of liberation by any definition. The people of East Pakistan constitute the majority in Pakistan and they cannot, therefore, liberate themselves from themselves.

In this connection, it is well to recall that the areas that today constitute Pakistan were not forced into a union.

They came together of their own violation after duly exercising their right of self-determination under neutral auspices in 1947.

The elected representatives of East Pakistan in the undivided Bengal Assembly voted to join Pakistan. The district of Sylhet and the North West Frontier province joined Pakistan after the verdict in a referendum. In other words, they duly exercised their right of self-determination. Such a right is exercised only once when a state is formed and is never exercised a second time. Otherwise, we may have to redraw the maps of many countries of the world, ever so often.

Incidentally, Abraham Lincoln who did not let the southern states of the union exercise the right of self-determination a second time is hailed today as a hero all over the world. Let alone parts of a single state, even satellites of certain states are not allowed to break away. Can any same person, therefore, expect the Central Govt. of Pakistan to permit parts of Pakistan to break away, with armed support from a neighbouring state?

He was ignorant of AL's designs, says MNA-elect

Md. Nurul Islam MNA-elect, in a statement said, the nefarious design of India against Pakistan our beloved homeland, and subversive activities of anti-state elements have raised such a grave national crisis that 1, as a peaceful loyal citizen of Pakistan, cannot help expressing my feeling in this regard, reports APP.

Pressed by the people of my area who loved and respected me because of my services and good social work. I contested the last general election on AL ticket and was elected. Never before I was associated with any political party. When I entered the political arena as MNA-elect of the now banned AL, I found myself in an atmosphere vitiated by ideas and emotions which were totally unacceptable to me and contrary to my patriotic feelings. I was shocked and disappointed. I joined AL on its announced principles and policies, but was quite ignorant of its secessionist design.

India is our arch enemy. This is my faith and firm conviction. We should not forget that hatred India had towards us, the suffering oppression that country subjected us to. As true Muslims and Pakistan's we must stand as one solid rock against Hindu imperialism. I, whose life long dream and desire centre round a prosperous Pakistan, have nothing to do with those who are associated with enemies of Pakistan and Islam.

East Pakistan situation fast returning to normal

Karachi, May 30, (APP): Mr. M. Sulaiman Assistant Secretary General, All Pakistan Confederation of Labour (A.P.C.O.L.) has said that the situation in East Pakistan is rapidly returning to normal.

He was speaking here before his departure for Geneva this morning to attend the 56th session of the International Labour Conference as a workers' delegate.

Mr. Sulaiman, who arrived here from Dacca enroute to Geneva yesterday, has been appointed by the Govt. of Pakistan to attend the conference scheduled to begin on June 2.

During his discussions with A.P.C.O.L. leaders here, among other things, Mr. Sulaiman said, according to expectations, the industrial and commercial concerns in East Pakistan will start functioning at full capacity shortly.

The camps being established lie on important routes from India into Pakistan. Necessary arrangements have been made for the reception, relief and return of the people to their homes.

The camps are being established at the following places: Satkhira in Khulna, Benapole in Jessore, Chuadanga and Meherpur in Kushtia, Godagari, Rohanpur and Dhamoirhat in Rajshahi, Khanpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagar in Dinajpur, Kaliganj in Rangpur, Nalitabari and Durgapur in Mymensingh, Jaintiapur, Kuluara and Chunarughat in Sylhet, Akhaura and Bibirbazar in comilla, Feni in Noakhali and Tekhnaf in Chittagong.

These camps are being set up and the actual dates for the return and reception of the people will be announced over the radio and in the press shortly.

It may be recalled here that the president, General Yahya Khan, in a recent press statement, had urged the people, misled by hostile propaganda had crossed over to India during the recent disturbances, to return to their homes, meanwhile a large number of peace loving people who have gone to remote villages following the disturbances have already come back to their homes and are pursuing normal life.

Bangladesh Govt. set up in Calcutta in utter disarray

The much publicised Govt. of Bangla Desh set up under the blessings of India in Calcutta is in a state of utter disarray and has fallen prey to its own motley character, reports APP.

With the return to normalcy all over the province and communications having been restored people who had gone away have started returning and are telling their tales of the Indian side of the border. Almost to a man these people regard the Bangla Desh movement as dead".

According to them the people who so profusely professed membership of the so-called "Govt." do not carry any conviction of purpose with them let apart formulation of policies. Their ideological differences are so wide and varying that many of them are not even on speaking terms with each other.

Everybody agrees that Mr. Tajuddin, Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed and military high commands of Col. Usmani are simply unable to reconcile their differences. The military high command despises the politicians sitting in the comfortable rest houses provided by the Indian Govt. and Prof. Muzaffar is bitter for having been ignored in the power hierarchy.

On top of all this the insulting behaviour of Indian authorities is too much to bear. All money looted by miscreants and taken away to India is being operated by Indian authorities, Mr. Tajuddin and his henchmen having no say in the matter. The members of the "Bangla Desh Govt. are guarded day and night. Infact. The arms given to miscreants by Indian authorities are taken away at night and they are not allowed to move about unescorted.

Admission by official Indian Radio that the influx of "refugees" from East Pakistan has slackened down is significant in the context. Having lost all hope of other countries of the world to lacing their line the Indian authorities are chewing back their own concocted news items of the heavy influx. Little wonder that the Indian authorities are now clarifying that the extent of support to the Bangla Desh Govt. will be determined by the area they are able to control. This leaves the Bangla Desh Govt. high and dry as it have no area or people to govern.

The so-called refugee camps consist mostly of destitute population of Calcutta and are a little better than concentration camps. The misled Muslim inmates of these camps who might have crossed the border in the hope of a fair deal at the hands of fictitious Bangla Desh Govt. have become bitterly hateful of Indian masters and their henchmen led by Mr. Tajuddin.

They have become conscious of the utter indifference shown by their loud mouthed supporters. Even if some relief material trickles down their way, it will only add insult to injury.
