Two hundred and seventy. five bodies of men, women and children of all ages had been recovered until yesterday after noon from the debris of The Adamjeenagar Housing colony which were the target of wanton and indiscriminate shelling by the raiding Indian warplanes in the early hours of Saturday, writes APP's war correspondent Iqbal Ali Khan.
The correspondent in his eye witness account of the scene of destruction writes :
One could hardly imagine that the aggressor could go to this extent by killing the
innocent citizens by her machines of destruction I visited the site of destruction
yesterday afternoon in the company of some foreign journalists T. V. and Radio newsmen
and cameramen. 'Adamjeenagar' house the workers of the Adamjee Jute Mills, world's
largest jute textile complex located about nine miles from Dacca on the Dacca-
It was indeed a terrible scene with survivours of the victims rummaging the rubble for the bodies
of their Kith and Kin.
The Manager of the Mills Mr. Nasir Abbs Zaidi told me that 275 bodies had so far been recovered from the debris while another 150 persons were admitted with body wounds to the Dacca medical college Hospital, Mitford Hospital, Victoria Hospital etc.
Mr. Zaidi and Mr. Nasir Ahmad Mira, Aslo a Manager of the Mills took us round the wrecked house. There are two sections of the Adamjeenagar one comprises the 'Pucca' quarters while the other consists of hutments and other 'Kitcha' structures.
The former bore the burnt of the shelling.
There are in all about 1900 housing units out of which about 450 units, mostly two-
Mass Grave.
As soon as we entered the main gate of the mills we saw a funeral procession coming out of the workers colony. We were told that was the body of a worker just extricatd from keep of ruins. The dead were burried in the mass grave, about a couple of miles from the main mill.
The surviving members of the affected families raised mak shift shelters along the river side down the mill. Some of the injured persons were lying on cots. I approached an aged man, Baboo Jan, who had received splinter injuries and asked his account of the tragedy.
Baboo Jan, about 55, who works in the jute mill as a weaner, told me "Janab : I along with members of my family was juast asleep on the night between Friday arid Saturday when around 3 a.m. we heard a laud beem and immediately after that there were shrieks and wailling by children and women Roof of my quarter gave way and wals were badly damaged. The members of the family got trapped under the debris who were later taken out with severe injuries.

About Razzak, another worker of the mill, told me that he was on rescue mission following the first explosion when another bomb was pounded by the Indian planes.
The second bomb, however, exploded at some distance. A splinter hit him in the head while the other pierced into his shoulder.
An educated person who was probably from the clerical staff of the mill told me that it looked as if Indian fighter planes had become cargo planes whose sole aim was to unload the cargo unload the cargoffigo go .... meaning ammunition and explosives) by dumping them on the civilian population.
The Indian attack on the workers colony and the big loss of the human lives has, however, not dampened the spirit of the workers to face the enemy's challenge, condemning the enemy's action, some of the inmates of the colony told the visiting journalists that they were prepared to suffer still worst for the defence of their motherland. Indian wants to demoralise the civilian population of Pakistan by resorting to such inhuman and barbarous acts of aggression. She is grossly mistaken Our morale is higher to face the Indian challenge, they told us.
At the end of the visit, the journalists boarded their vehicles leaving the site, they were seen off by the crowd, comprising mostly members of the affected families who raised the slogans of `Dushman ko kutchal do, president Yahya Khan zindabad and General Niazi Zindabad.
