Motia stresses need for united struggle

The workers of the East Pakistan National Awami Party (Wali Group) held street corner meetings in Dacca yesterday to impress the people about the supreme need of continuing the present movement unitedly for the realisation of their rights, reports PPI.

The workers assembled at Baitul Makarram yesterday afternoon where different speakers including Begum Motia Chowdhury. The NAP leader, spoke stressing the importance of maintaining unity in the rank and file of the people at this crucial stage of our nation.

The speakers lent full support to the demands made by Sheikh Mujib on Sunday Race Course and asked the authorities to concede these demands forthwith.

Killing of people a black chapter of history, says Ata

Mr. Ataur Rahman Khan, chief of Bangla Jatiya League in a statement issued to the press on Thrusday said that use of force can still the voice of the people only momentarily.

He said the killing of people will only add a black chapter in our history.

He urged the Govt. to discard the use of force and to force the reality of life.

He said that there is worldwide acclamation for the right of self- determination for the oppressed people including Kashmir. Why should the people of Bangla Desh be denied of this right? he asked.

He congratulated the leaders of W. Pakistan who have condemned the killing of unarmed people of Bangladesh. He said although they were late but it is always better late than never.

Ataur Rahman Khan will leave Dacca on Saturday for a tour of Khulna and Barisal. He will address two public meetings at these places. He will be accompanied by the senior members of his party.

Bhashani calls for unity among political parties

Tangail, March 11 (PPI): The NAP chief Bhashani said here yesterday that now there should not be any division among the political parties in Purba Bangla and urged upon people of all sections to be united for achieving the goals for which they were fighting.

Addressing a big public meeting at Bindubashini High School Maidan the Maulana said that the people of Purbo Bangla were now united to realise their rights and the days for compromise on any question related to Bengalese interest had gone.

Unqualified support to Sheikh Mujib's movement

A large number of organisations have given us qualified support to Mujib in his stand for the emancipation of the 75 million people of Bangladesh.

Narayanganj Mukhtear Bar Association, the Coordination Council of Associations, the College of Social Welfare and Research Centre, Purbo Pakistan Shilpo Unnayan Sanghtha Karmochari Union and Purbo Pakistan Homeopath Medical Chhatra Samity, Dacca Newspaper Hawkers Union supported Mujib's movement.

UN experts should stay, desires Mujib

Sheikh Mujib yesterday conveyed his desire to MR. K. Wolff, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme that the UN experts working in East Pakistan should stay here as long as possible, reports ENA.

Mr. K. Wolff yesterday called on the Awami League president at his Dhanmondi residence and had a long discussion on the stay of UN personnel in East Pakistan and Awami League chief's statement of Wednesday drawing the attention of UN Secretary General, U Thant, to the "genocide" in East Pakistan. He said the meeting took place at Awami League chief's request.

Mr. Wolff said that Mujib expressed his concern over the alleged military build-up in East Pakistan and also explaining the reference in his Wednesday's statement to the UN Secretary -General.

Mr. Wolff his opinion that the situation in East Pakistan so far as UN personnel were concerned was not such that they should leave here immediately.

It will be recalled that U Thant directed the UN Deputy Resident Representative in Dacca to take necessary decision of the UN experts.

Another day of non-cooperation passes off peacefully

The second phase of the non-violence and non-co-operation movement launched by sheikh Mujib from the Ramna Race Course Maidan on March 7 for the emancipation of 75 million Bengalis of Bangladesh passed peacefully for the fourth day yesterday.

The government and semi-government offices, autonomous bodies, high courts and subordinate courts and educational institutions remained totally closed in response to the call of Mujib. The offices and services such as health and sanitation, water and electricity, power supply, telephone and telegraphs exempted from the non-co-operation movement functioned strictly in keeping with the provisions of the order of exemption. The postal services functioned normally within Bangladesh.

The State Bank and scheduled banks functioned for three and a half hours starting from 9 a.m. and transacted business within Bangladesh. There was, however, some confusion as regards inter-bank transactions. Armed police pockets have been posted in the banks.

The staff and officers of the various central and provincial government offices, semi-government offices and autonomous bodies stayed out of their offices for the tenth day in a row yesterday. The courts did not sit. The judge and other subordinate staff and advocates did not come to the courts.

The educational Institutions remained closed. But large numbers of university students have stayed back in their hostels to make preparations for a bigger movement that lies ahead as predicted by Mujib. The students have formed their own "Sangram Parishad" for contributing their share to the movement that is sweeping throughout Bangladesh.

Prices of some of the essential commodities which had temporarily gone up, dropped to level much to the relief of the struggle of people. The essential commodities and rice was available in large quantity in the market.

The Awami League volunteers with their now widely-loved six-star white and green caps, considerably assisted the police in maintaining law and order, "The Sangram parishads" formed in every mohallah by the Awami League volunteers in co-operation with the citizens of the area, patrolled the city streets during the night.

CML leader calls on Mujib

Pir Saifuddin; Council Muslim League MNA-elect from Cambellpur, Punjab, yesterday called on the Awami League president, Sheikh Mujib at the latter's Dhanmondi residence and remained with him for 45 minutes, reports ENA.

Pir Saifuddin is belived to have brought an important message from the Council Muslim League president, Mian Mohammad Doultana.

Khurshed meets Mujib

Mr. Mohammad Khurshed, president of the Punjab Awami League who arrived in Dacca yesterday morning had a long discussion with Mujib at his Dhanmondi residence yesterday, reports ENA.

Mr. Khurshed is believed to have conveyed to the Awami League chief certain views of president Yahya Khan on the present political stalemate. He met the president at Rawalpindi on Wednesday before his departure for Dacca.

Mr. Khurshed, however, declined to disclose anything in his discussion with president General Yahya Khan or Mujib. He is likely to meet Sheikh Mujib again today.

No compromise on basic questions, says Kamruzzaman

Rajshahi, March 11 (PPI): Mr. Kamruzzaman, secretary of Awami League Central Parliamentary Party declared here today that his party was fighting to free the people of Bangladesh from all sorts of coercion, exploitation and miseries and would not effect any compromise on the basic questions under any circumstances.

Addressing a huge public meeting at the Bhuban Mohan Park here this morning. Mr. Zaman observed that 75 million people of Bangla Desh had already stood behind the dynamic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib like a solid rock. The Awami League, he added, was firmly determined to fight to the last for the realisation of their legitimate rights and the emancipation of Bangla Desh.

Mr. Kamruzzaman who rushed here yesterday evening from Dacca under the direction of the party chief Mujib to assess the situation here said that the indiscriminate firing by the army personnel on the peaceful processionists could not go unnoticed for all times. The historians would be ashamed of writing the chapters containing the events of 1952, 1966, 1968-69 and of the current month, he added.

Foil conspiracy to destroy economy of Bangla Desh

Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed, G.S. of the East Pakistan Awami League, yesterday reiterated the determination of 75 million people of Bangladesh to fail the conspiracy of the vested interest and the anti-people forces to destroy the economy of Bangladesh and to inflict sufferings on the hungry masses.

In a press statement issued in Dacca Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed said that while the struggle for the emancipation of the people must continue, all efforts must be made to produce maximum and keep the economy in full gear. He said "to do so, our people must be prepared to give their best in all spheres of production".

Mr. Tajuddin Ahmed in his statement announced certain exemptions and clarifications in respect of Banks, agriculture, EPIDC, flood control and town protection ports, etc.
