PPP supports two demands of Mujib, says Bhutto.

Lahore, March 12 (APP): The chairman of the PPP Mr. Bhutto today said that history will vindicate that his party's stand on the current political crisis was not unreasonable and that "we have done it in the highest interest of the people of Pakistan".

Talking to newsmen on his arrival here this evening from Sukkur by air, he said his party had taken this stand to find out a permanent. Solution and we will co-operate in finding out any such solution.

He said his party supported two demands of Mujib made on Sunday regarding holding of judicial enquiry into the firing incidents in East Pakistan and returning of the army to barracks.

He said demands, of they may be so called were universal in nature and, therefore his party supported them like elsewhere in the world. The army should carry out its primary function and return to the barracks.

Writers form action committee

A meeting of writers held in Dacca yesterday formed a Lekhak Sangram Shibir (Writers Action Committee) with Mr. Hasan Hafizur Rahman as convener.

The other members of the Shibir are messrs Dr. Ahmed Sharif, Shaukat Osman, Ramesh Dasgupta, Badruddin Umar, Sayeed Atiqullah, Samsur Rahman, Sikandar Abu Zafar, Borhanuddin, Syed Shamsul Huq, Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, Mahadeb Saha, Farhad Majumder, Abdul Ghani Hazari, Zahir Raihan, Abu Kaiser, Rafiq Kaiser, Muntaseer, Rafiq Nowshad; Shahnur Khan, Mohammad Nurul Huda, Sajjad Kadir, Ahmed Humayum, Roknuzzaman Khan, Humayun Kabir, Bashir Alhelal, Ahmed Safa, Eklashuddin Ahmed, Masud Ahmed Masud, Begum Sufia Kamal and Mrs. Laila Samad.

JSL demands pay for hartal period

An emergent Central Working Committee meeting of the Jutiya Sramik League was held on Friday, Mr. Mohammad Shahjahan vice-president, presided.

The meeting asked for the payments to the workers for the period they did not do their work in response to a call of non-co-operation by Mujib. The meeting also demanded extra-payment for those who were responsible for the maintenance of power and water supply and also security guards.

It was decided in the meeting that the members of units of Jatiya Sramik League will donate their one day's salary to the Shaheed fund instituted by Mujib. The meeting also formed a Sangram Parishad, the meeting commenced with prayers for the salvation of the departed souls of the current movement.

The meeting pledged its support to Mujib in his stand for the emancipation of the people of Bangladesh.

Adamjee Jute Mills Sramik Union also held a similar meeting and decided to pay their one day's salary to the shaheed fund. They also supported the four-point programme of Mujib.

Dacca city AL union presidents, secretaries meet

An emergent meeting of all the presidents and secretaries of the unions of Dacca city Awami League was held at the party office here yesterday, reports PPI.

The meeting was presided over by Mr. Anwar Chowdhury, senior vice-president, Dacca city Awami League and address by Md. Serajul Islam, vice- president Dacca city Awami League, Gazi Golam Mustafa, G.S. Dacca city Awami League. Korban Ali Mansur Ahmed organising secretary, Dacca city Awami League and others.

It directed all the units and unions of Dacca city Awami League to form Sangram Parishad immediately.

Wali arriving today

Pashawar, March 12 (APP): Khan Abdul Wali Khan, president of the National Awami Party left here this evening by PIA for Karachi, enroute to Dacca.

Khan Wali Khan accompanied by Mr. Ghaus Bakhsh Bizenjo, a leader of the Baluchistan NAP is scheduled to leave Karachi for Dacca tomorrow.

During his stay in Dacca the NAP chief will meet Awami League chief Sheikh Mujib and discuss with him the constitution issues.

Donations to Awami League Relief Fund

The Commerce Bank Ltd. has donated a sum of Rs. 5000 towards Mujib's relief fund. The staff of the Bank has also decided to donate one day's salary to the fund.

The staffs of the Agricultural Development Bank of Pakistan  (ADBP) have donated an amount of Rs. 1075 towards the Awami League Relief Fund as a token of first installment for the families of the shaheed in the current movement.

Bhashani fully backs Mujib's stand on freedom  of Bangladesh

Mymensingh, March 12 : Bhashani, National AP chief, lent his full support this afternoon to Mujib in his struggle for emancipation and freedom of Bangladesh.

Addressing a huge gathering at the local Circuit House maidan this afternoon Maulana Bhashani said that now there should not be any division among the political parties in Purba Bangla and urged upon all sections of people to be united for achieving the goals for which they were fighting. He warned that however would now go for any sort of compromise would be torn into pieces.

Supporting Mujib's directions at the Dacca Race Course ground, the Maulana advised all including Govt. officials to follow his directives for the task of emancipation of seven crore people of Bangladesh.

The NAP chief asked the people to have complete faith in Mujib and added if the present administration did not concede the demands within reasonable time our movement for realisation of the cherished goal will continue.

He said that application of force on unarmed people could not stop our movement for emancipation and freedom.

CSPs  to take orders from Sheikh Mujib

The members of the CSP Association and the EPCs (executive class one) Association at a meeting pledged their full support to the cause of the people and to abide by the directive of the chosen leader of the people, Sheikh Mujib, reports APP.

The members of these associations further decided to donate their one day's salary to the Awami League Relief Fund.

Bomb blast in city

A hand-made bomb exploded near the office of the Armed Services Board in Kakrail around 8 P.M. in Dacca yesterday. No damage to life or property was reported.

According to police and fire brigade sources some unknown persons threw a molotov cocktail apparently on the office of the Armed Services Board. The bomb hit the fences which caught fire. No damage to the office property was done.

The police who arrived on the spot within minutes of the blast, collected the bomb materials and after brief interrogation left the place. No arrest has so far been made in this connection.

Appeal for donation to AL relief fund

A Baitul Mukarram meeting held under the auspices of the Co-ordination council of Associations, unions of the Public Employees of Pakistan held here yesterday appealed to all Government employees to donate generously to the Awami League shaheed relief fund.

Presided over by Mr. A. Rashid the meeting deplored the firing on the unarmed people all over Bangladesh in the current mass movement and lent its support to the four point conditions announced by Mujib at his Race Course address.

The meeting in a resolution decided to continue boycotting the offices in accordance with the directives of Mujib.

The meeting in another resolution condemned the "undemocratic action " of  Bhutto and urged the president to withdraw the contents of his recent broadcast. The meeting was followed by a procession which paraded the main streets of the city.

Widespread demand in West Wing for transfer of power

Lahore, March 12, (PPI): Prominent intellectuals, journalists, political, social, cultural, trade union and student body workers have called for an immediate transfer of power to the elected representative of the people.

In a joint statement issued here on Wednesday, they expressed grave concern over the political situation obtaining in Pakistan. They were of the opinion that the country was passing through such a crisis which was likely to disintegrate if an earnest endeavour to resolve it in a positive manner was not made without further delay.

They appealed to all democratic political organisations of the people and other elements and individuals to rise above limited group politics and try to restore a calm atmosphere conducive to mutual understanding. These elements should play a decisive role in establishing a democratic Government, they said.

They were of the considered opinion that under present circumstances the dream of people's sovereignty and restoration of democracy could not materialise without accepting the demands for the transfer of power after ending the martial law.

They felt that by remaining peaceful, the East Pakistan people had given a practical proof of the fact they stood for national solidarity and integrity like their compatriots from the west wing.

They said: we, as the conscience of the people of the west wing of Pakistan, express our sorrow at the doings of persons, parties and elements trying to create a gulf of suspicion and hatred between the two wings of the country.

The signatories to the statement including Malik Hamid Sarfraz, General Secretary, Panjab Awami League, Mirza Muhammad Ibrahim, President, Railway Workers Union; prof. Eric Cyprian and veteran journalists Mr. Abdullah Malik, Mr.I.A. Rahman, Mr. Hamid Akhtar and Mr. Nisar Usmani, Poet Jalil and other leaders.

Demand for emancipation just & fair, says NAP (Requisitionist Group)

The provincial working committee of the East Pakistan National Awami Party met at the party office in Dacca on Friday, Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed presided.

The working committee in a resolution said that by postponing and delaying the National Assembly had healt a severe blow to the aspirations of the people and has forced the country into a serious crisis.

As a natural corollary to the postponement, the people have been spontaneously demanding the emancipation and freedom of the people. The working committee said; this demand is for the emancipation of the people from continuous exploitations. This demand deal is fair and Just."

The meeting condemned the killing of the unarmed people. It expressed its deep sense of gratitude to the martyrs who laid down their lives during the current movement.

The working committee demanded that a judicial inquiry headed by a high court judge should be instituted to probe into the firings and also demanded adequate compensation for the families of the victims of firings.

The working committee congratulated the millions of freedom fighters of Bangladesh and assured the people that EPNAP is with them and shall always be with them.

The working committee reminded the people that the present struggle was against the anti-people forces, 22 families, jaigirdars, joteders and American Imperialism.

The working committee finally warned the people that anti-people forces and agent provocateurs were trying to divert the present movement.

Yahya urged to concede demands of Sheikh Mujib

Leaders of various political parties and commercial and other organisations have appealed to president Yahya to save country by conceding to the demands of Mujib.

Prof. Ghulam Azam, yesterday urged president Yahya in the name of Allah to put to an end once for all the unfortunate bloodshed that the country has witnessed recently.

Except Ghulam Azam, Secretary Genaral of Gono Oikko Andolan, Mr. Mukhlesuzzaman Khan, Principal Ibrahim Khan an educationist and former MNA, Mr. Abbas Ali Khan ex-MNA and Divisional chief of the Jamaat-e-Islam, the chairman of the Pakistan Jute Mills Association, the National Recreation Association, the Narayanganj chamber of commerce & Industry, the Co-ordination Council of Association and Unions of Public Employees of Pakistan yesterday lent full support to the four-point demand made by Mujib and appealed to president Yahya to concede to demands of Mujib and save the country.

Another day of unflagging non-cooperation

The non-violence and non-cooperation movement for the participation of 75 million Bengalis of Bangladesh, launched by Mujib on March 7, continued peacefully for the fifth day yesterday.

The officers and staff of the Govt. and semi-govt offices, autonomous bodies and also that of the central Govt. offices did not attend their offices for 12 consecutive days. The high court and subordinate courts did not sit. The educational institutions remained totally closed.

In view of the fresh directive issued by the Awami League high command certain sections of the public sector was activised on a limited scale. The Sectors that were activised yesterday were agriculture, "flood control and town protection", ports including in land ports" EPIDC industries", "relief and rehabilitation" and development work in rural areas".

A skeleton staff was available in the Accountant-General's (East Pakistan) office for the payment of pay bills and for the purpose of transactions authorised by the directive issued by the Awami League high command. Ansars were brought back to their normal duties.

A part of the Electricity Department of the EPWAPDA, responsible for the maintanence and repair of the power supply and lines, functioned normally.

The other offices and services like health and sanitation, telephone and telegraphs, post offices and water supply also functioned normally. The telephone and telegraphs and postal services transacted their business stirictly within Bangla Desh.

The teleprinter lines and the PIA's limited services continued to remain the only link between Bangladesh and West Pakistan. The PIA's inter-district services within Bangladesh did not operate yesterday as well.

The shops and commercial establishments remained open and good business was reported. The prices maintained Thursday's level. The prices of the baby food was stable. The road, railway and water ways traffic was normal. The EPRTC services, including interdistrict services, plied normally.

The police with the help of Awami League volunteers kept close vigilance and maintained law and order. Since the police, assisted by Awami League volunteers, have started patrolling the city streets, incidence of road-side crimes, have dropped down considerably.
