Withdrawal of forces on duty at TV demanded

A meeting of the Drama artistes of Dacca TV station held in Dacca yesterday demanded immediate withdrawal of forces on duty from the premises of the TV station.

Presided over by Mr. Abdul Matin, the meeting expressed its solidarity with the current mass movement and decided not to participate in any of the TV programmes which demoralise the people of Bangladesh in their struggle for emancipation and freedom

It also supported the plan of the Bikkhubdha Shilpee Sangram Parishad and elected Mr. Gholam Mostafa and Mohammad Ansar to represent the TV drama artistes in the Bikkhubdha Shilpee Sangram parishad.

The meeting also called upon the TV drama artistes to contact the Bikkhubdha Shilpee Sangram Parishad Kindividually or through the elected representatives in case of any difficulty about their TV programme.

Later the meeting formed a TV Natya Shilpee Parishad with Farid Ali as convener.

The other members of the Parishad are Hasan Imam, Shaukat Akbar, Altaf Hossain Abu Sadaat, Hasehmi Anwar, Kazi Mashudul Haq.  Mrs. Raoshan Jamil, Aleya Ferdusi.

Mujib tells press workers to launch movement peacefully

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib yesterday called upon the people to carry on their non-violent, non-cooperation movement in peaceful and orderly manner through a successful end. You cannot achieve  anything in chaos and confusion and in violence, he added, reports PPI.

The Bangabandhu was addressing a huge procession of newspaper press workers who went to his Dhanmondhi residence yesterday to extend their support to his programmes shortly after they had held a mass rally at the Baitul Mukarram.

The Awami League chief cautioned the people against disruptive forces and asked them to remain vigilant against those elements till final victory.

Sheikh Mujib said, "We do not want to oppress anybody, but if anybody oppresses us, we shall not let him go very easily."

He expressed his satisfaction that the people of Bangladesh had realised themselves  a new and stood like rock in their demands. Earlier the newspaper press workers at its rally at the Baital Mukarram lent their full support to the four-point demand of the Mujib.

Airways employees to continue strike

The general meeting of the Bangladesh Biman Sramik Union (Airway's Employees Union) held in Dacca yesterday pledge to continue their strike till the forces on duty at the Dacca Airport were withdrawn from the airport premises.

The meeting in a resolution maintained that the Dacca civil airport had been made into a "Concentration Camp" by posting a large number of forces on duty.

The meeting in a resolution further took the pledge to continue their struggle for the emancipation of the people of Bangladesh in accordance with the call of Sheikh Mujib.

UN experts start leaving

Seven experts of United Nations including five on temporary assignment left here for Bangkok on Saturday , an official of the UNDP to 1 d APP last night.

He added, however, that 62 to 64 dependents of UN personnel serving in East Pakistan also repatriated.

According to the official handout of a total of 52 UN personnel 48 are experts working with the provincial government and remaining four are members of staff at UNDP office at Dacca.

The UNDP in a press release said so far 2 UN experts — a one unmarried lady and the husband of sick lady left Bangladesh with the permission of the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP. The number of experts staying have at present are 48.

The press release pointed out, the personnel of the UN organisations are international civil servants and thus their responsibilities are not national but exclusively international. As such they should in the performance or their duty neither seek nor accept instructions from any government of from any authority external to the UN organisation concerned.

Mujib ready to meet Yahya in Dacca

Sheikh Mujib said in Dacca yesterday that he was ready to meet president General Yahya Khan if he comes to Dacca.

Replying to a question by newsmen if he would meet the president, the Awami League chief asked the questioner " Is he (the president) here?" and then added, "I am ready to meet the president if he comes here."

Sheikh Mujib was asked the question at the end of his 90 minutes talks with Khan Wali at Dhanmondhi residence yesterday morning.

Sheikh Mujib also told newsmen, " people are united and when they are united, no power on earth can suppress them". He referred to the current massive non-violent movement in Bangladesh.

Asked to comment on the suggestions in newspapers that time was running out for solution of the problems, Sheikh Mujib said, "Kindly wait and see I am in a movement. Until I achieve the rights of the people and they can live as free citizens of a free country and until they are emancipated, our struggle will continue."

People urged to remain ready for any sacrifice

Sheikh Mujib yesterday appealed to the people to remain ready for any sacrifice, and should force be unleashed against them to resist it by all means possibly.

In a press statement issued in Dacca late last night Mujib announced the programme of action commencing today (March 15) in form of directives. All the previous directives, exemptions and clarifications have been superseded by the new directives.
