MLO 155 rejected at city meeting

A big rally held yesterday at Baitul Mukarram under the auspices of the Chhatra League protested the promulgation of the Martial Law order 115 and rejected it as unacceptable to the people.

The rally was of the opinion that Sheikh Mujib alone was the competent authority to issue any directive for the seven crore Bengalees.

The rally, which was followed by a procession was addressed by the four leaders of the Swadhin Bangladesh Kendrio Chatra Sangram parishad, messrs Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, Shajahan Shiraj, A.S.M. Abdur Rab and Abdul Quddus Makhan.

In a resolution the rally demanded the transfer of all troops from Bangladesh.

The large procession which paraded the city streets chanted slogans against promulgation of the MLO and killing of unarmed people by the uniformed personnel. The processionists paraded the North-South Road, Kakrail Road, passed near the President House, Airport Road and Shahbagh Mirpur connecting road before terminating at Shaheed Minar.

Earlier, in his speech, Mr. Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui described the promulgation of the new MLO as the direct provocation to the awakened people of Bangladesh and warned that if a single Banglee employee was affected by any such ordinance, the 75 million people will resist it unitedly.

Mr. A.S.M. Abdur Rab who is the vice-president of the DUCSU emphasised the need of a disciplined and organised movement and said no movement could attain its goal without an organised force. He urged the people to carry the directives of the Bangabandhu to every nook and corner of Bangladesh.

Mr. Shahjahan Siraj in his address gave an account of the killings and atrocities let loose by the uniformed personnel in Bangladesh and urged president Yahya to verify them himself. He called upon the people to unite themselves and continue their struggle for the realisation of their rights as per the directives of the Bangabandhu.

Mr. Abdul Quddus Makhan said that no power on earth could keep the awakened people of Bangladesh subjugated any more. He said that the people under the leadership of Sheikh Mujib would continue their struggle till their emancipation and freedom were achieved.
