Mujib assures all help to foreign newsmen

Foreign journalists were caught in pleasant surprise here yesterday when the undisputed leader of the seven crore Bengalees Sheikh Mujib, met them in the truest colour of a Bengali commoners, reports PPI.

In lungi and punjubi the Sheikh was having evening stroll in the family lawn when he received the foreign Journalists and talked to them a few words in homely atmosphere.

Like a friend known since long  past the Sheikh told the foreign journalists "you are guests of my Bangla Desh. He, assured them that he would do every thing possible to redress their difficulties, if any."

The Sheikh said, "If you face any difficulty please bring it to my notice and I shall do my best to redress them. You are the guests of my Bangla Desh."

It may be mentioned here that special representatives of all important news media all over the world are currently here for covering the political development.

All eyes turned to Dacca, says Daultana

Lahore, March 16 (PPI): Mian Daultana observed here today that all eyes were turned to Dacca where the president and Mujib were meeting to see hope and light return to the 12 crore people of Pakistan.

He told PPI that since there was one Pakistan there could be no question of two majority parties in one country.

Of course, understanding and co-operation between the major parties majority and the minority was welcome in running the affairs of the country, he added.

Anti-social elements warned

The chief of the Awami League volunteer corps, Mr. Abdur Razzaque on Monday cautioned, the people against the anti-social elements who, he said, are harassing people in the garb of AL volunteer corps and donning their six-star caps, reports PPI.

In a statement here yesterday evening, he called upon the people to haul up these elements and refer them to Awami League office or to ring up at 252178.

Mujib urged for directives to release politics

The East Pakistan Students Union (Matia Group) yesterday made an appeal to Mujib to issue directives. For immediate release of all political detenus including Moni Singh, Ajoy Roy, Tejen Nag Mirza Abdul Hai and Majbubullah.

In a statement the central secretariat of the EPSU said that the entire people of Bangla Desh had solidly stood behind the Sheikh Mujib in his struggle for emancipation and freedom and wore continuing the united struggle. As matter of fact ML had become effective in Bangladesh where they noted, government and non-government activities were run according to the directives of the representatives of the people.

The EPSU secretariat said that a number of patriotic political and student leaders had been kept in jails by the administration in continuation of the repressive measures of the Ayub regime. People have been fighting for their release since long and during 1969 mass movement got them released for sometime. In the present political situation people again were expecting these leaders to be by their side in their struggle for emancipation, the EPSU leaders observed.

FQ meets Mujib

Mr. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury president of Pakistan Musilm League (convention) yesterday met Awami League chief, Sheikh Mujib at his residence, reports APP.

Mr. Chowdhury was with the Sheikh for sometime.

Bhashani to address Paltan meeting on March 23

Sumar and thirty-one prominent lawyers of local bar today bitterly criticised the statement of the PPP chief Mr. Bhutto about transfer of power to Awami League and PPP and said that his enigmatic theory of transferring power of the Central Govt. to the two parties has for them complicated the matter.

City advocates urge transfer of power

The advocate of the Dacca High Court at a meeting held yesterday demanded immediate lifting of the martial law and transfer of power to the elected representatives of the people.

The meeting presided over by Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan asserted that there were no difficulties legal or otherwise to effect such transfer of power and the so called difficulties were mere pretexts to evade the transfer of power.

The Meeting also reiterated its unqualified support to the four-point demands of the Bangobandhu at the historic Race Course meeting on March 7 and urged president Yahya to accept them forthwith.

The advocate condemned the killings of unarmed civilians by forces on duty and demanded immediate enquiry into the killings and withdrawal of all army personnel to the barracks.

The meeting called upon all advocates throughout Bangladesh to contribute generously towards Awami League Relief Fund for the families of the Shaheeds.

Daultana due in city on March 19

Lahore, March 16 (PPI): Mian Mumtaz Mohammad Khan Daultana, president of the Council Muslim League is schuduled to fly to Dacca on March 19.

He told PPI today that he would try to meet the leader of the majority party of Pakistan Sheikh Mujib at the to Catter's convenience.

Adamjee workers donate Rs. 102,112

Mr. Saidul Huq president of Adamjee Workers Union, presented a cheque for Rs-102,112.49 to Awami League chief Sheikh Mujib as donation to Awami League Relief Fund. The money was contributed by Adamjee workers who paid one day's salary for those killed in upsurge.

Sheikh Mujib's birthday today

A milad mahfil has been arranged by Dacca city Awami League to celebrate the 53rd birth day of the Awami League chief Sheikh Mujib today, reports APP.

The milad mahfil will be held at party office at 7 p.m.

Mujib and Yahya hold 21/2 hour talks:  Another meeting  today

President Yahya had two and a-half hour long inconclusive talks with Mujib, the undisputed leader of the 75 million people of Bangladesh, yesterday at the president Bhavan in Dacca. The talks will resume this morning at 10.

After the first round of talks with the president Mujib told newsmen that he had discussed political situation and other matters with Yahya. He said the discussions would continue and he would meet the president this morning at 10.

He told newsmen who had been waiting at the president Bhavan gate that discussions would continue as it would require time. "It was not a matter of one or two minutes ", he added.

When asked whether any progress had been made, Mujib said that he had nothing to say more. He said that discussions were going on and would continue.

To another question whether the atmosphere was "friendly" Mujib said, "Don't ask me more question."

Closed -door talks

Immediately on his return to his residence Sheikh Saheb went into a closed door informal talks with some of party top leaders. He had another round of meeting with top leaders of his party, at his residence later in the evening. He is understood to have apprised his lieutenants of the talks he had with president Yahya. Among the party leaders present in this informal meeting were Syed Nazrul Islam Khan, Sarkar Mustaq Ahmed, Mr. Mansur Ali, Mr, Tajuddin Ahmed, Mr. Kamruzzaman and Dr. Kamal Hossain.
