Sheikh's stand sound, logical, Asghar

Air Marshal (Rtd) Asghar Khan, leader of the Gono-Oikko Andolan yesterday urged president Yahya to immediately lift martial law and transfer power to Sheikh Mujib.

Addressing a crowded press conference, Air Marshal Asghar also urged the president to allow, Mujib to introduce an interim constitution for running the Government.

He said that it was not difficult to run the Govt. for some time with an interim constitution because it had been done in the country earlier also.

He said that only by transferring power to the majority party and withdrawing Martial law from the country that we can live in partnership and freedom. He said that any other arrangement would threaten the very existence of the country.

Bhashani's declaration tomorrow

Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, president Pakistan National Awami Party, will declare a historic announcement in a public meeting tomorrow at Paltan Maidan, a press release said in Dacca last night, reports PPI.

Tikka Khan in city

Lt. General Tikka Khan, Governor designate, East Pakistan, arrived in Dacca yesterday of , reports APP.

He was received at the airport by Lt. General Sahebzada Yaqub Khan. Martial Law Administrator, Zone "B" and other senior military officers.

Relentless struggle  to achieve rights to continue

Khulna, March 7(ENA) : A big public meeting was held this after noon under the auspices of the District Awami league and Students League at the Shaheed Hafeez Park. the meeting was presided over by Sheikh Abdul Aziz, President of the Khulna District Awami League and an MNA elect and increased by, Mr. Sala Uddin  Yusuf , MNA-elect and Mr. Habibur Rahman, MPA-elect.

The meeting expressed its determination to continue the movement relentlessly for achieving people's rights.

Hoist black flags

Four leaders of East Pakistan Students League and Dacca University Central Students Union in a joint statement yesterday called upon the people of Bangladesh to hoist black flags for an indefinite period atop residential houses, educational institutions, all sorts of transports, shops, commercial centres, government and non-government offices protest against the firing on the unarmed people in the current movement.

The signatories are Mr. Nur-e- Alam Siddiki, Mr. Shajahan Seraj, and A.S. M. Abdur Rab, and Abdul Kuddus Makhan.

Workers asked to resume duties

Three leaders of Jatiya Sramik League in a joint statement issued in Dacca yesterday called upon the industrial workers all over the province to join in their respective duties from Tuesday next, in accordance with the call given by Mujib.

They also asked the mills and factory owners to provide the wages to the workers for the last hartal period.

The signatories are M. Shah Jahan V.P., Mr. Abdul Manan GS. and M.Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, J.S. of the Jatiya Sramik League.

Azam holds Bhutto, Govt. Responsible

Prof. Ghulam Azam, Amir, Provincial Jamat-e-Islami, yesterday held both the present Government and Mr. Bhutto equally responsible for the reaction causing the huge loss of life and property in Bangladesh.

Medical Centre opened at Dacca

The Dacca Medical College unit of the East Pakistan Students League has opened a medical centre by the side of the Hospital Word No. 4 for the help of victims of the current movement in Bangladesh.

According to a press release of the EPSL unit, food, clothing and medical aids will be distributed among the injured persons through the centre. The centre has also made a special arrangement for collection of blood for the victims.

Mujib's conditions minimum and just, says Muzaffar

Prof. Muzaffar Ahmed said, we reiterate our demand for transferring power to the elected representatives of the people. The conditions given by Mujib are minimum and just. And the Govt. means business, it should immediately accept the conditions laid down by him and thereby help restore normality in the country. We call upon the people to carry on the struggle peacefully and not to resort to violence and maintain peace, tranquility specially between the Bengalee and non-Bengalee people.

Plea to transfer power forthwith

The Pakistan Association for the aged and Institute of Griatric Medicine has appealed to president General Yahya Khan to forthwith transfer power to frame a constitution, reports ENA.

In a meeting of the Association held in Dacca yesterday the senior citizens expressed their strong resentment against the killing of the unarmed people at Dacca and other places in East Pakistan.

They also recorded their grave concern over the fast deteriorating economic and political situation in the province and were of the opinion that only immediate transfer of power to the representatives of the people and lifting of marshal law could save the country from an utter disaster.

The meeting offered fateha for all who laid down their lives during the last few days in upholding democratic rights of the people.

Presided over by Mr. M.A. Haque, the gathering was also addressed among others by Mr. A.R. M. Inamul Haq, Dr. A.K.M. Abdul Wahidless, Mr. Abdul Jabbar, Mrs. S. Najimunnessa and Mr. A. M. Zeauddin.

Entire nation looking to Mujib : Matin Khatib

Karachi March 7 (APP) : Maulana Matin (V.P., Jamiat-e- Ulema-e-Pak.) yesterday appealed to Awami League chief Mujib to give the country a constitution ensuring its integrity and ideology.

The appeal was contained in a telegram sent by Maulana Khatib to Mujib yesterday, after hearing the contents of president Yahya Khan's broadcast to the nation.

It said that after Saturday's presidential announcement regretting the convening of the N.A. inaugural session on March 25 the entire nation was looking to Mujib to play a role worthy of your all Pakistan stature and your long association with the all Pakistan movement.

Telegram urged the Awami League chief to erase all bitterness of the recent past and give the nation a constitution ensuring its integrity and ideology.

Polo in US to help East Pak cyclone victims

Rawalpindi March (7) APP) : Polo, the sport that originated in Asia and then spread via Great Britain to America, is currently being played in the United States to raise funds to aid recent cyclone disaster victims in East Pakistan; according to a press release here.

The National Capital Park Polo Association is sponsoring a series of Polo benefit games for the Pakistan Relief Fund, one of the continuing US programmes to help survivors of the November disaster.

Daultana welcomes Yahya's decision

Lahore, March 7 (APP) : Mian Mumtaz Muhammad Khan Daultana president of the Pakistan Muslim League (council) has welcomed the decision by president Yahya to fix date for the inaugural session of the National Assembly.

Mufti Mahmood denies report

Multan March 7 (APP): Mufti said he had never made any such remarks against Mr. Bhutto in his press conference and added that the representative of the said news agency was not even present in the press conference.

He appealed to the press to show a sense of responsibility and refrain from reporting anything which might aggravate the present political situation  or create misunderstanding among political parties and leaders.

The following press note has been issued by the Martial Law Authorities in Dacca last night.

To dispel the general impression that law enforcing agencies have killed hundred and thousand of people during the recent unfortunate disturbance in East Pakistan, it is necessary to give the factual position for the satisfaction of the public who have naturally been subjected to rumours, horror, stories and wild propaganda, a natural phenomenon under such circumstance.

Dacca Beter Kendra goes off the air

In response to a call of non-cooperation by Mujib in the event of the Awami League's version not being transmitted in full the Dacca Betar Kendra was off the air during the third transmission on Sunday.

The third transmission of the Dacca Betar Kendra commences at 4-30 P.M. and closes at 11-30 P.M.

The Dacca Betar Kendra had decided to relay Mujib's Race Course rally on Sunday to meet the persistent demands from various quarters.

The decision to relay the Race Course rally was jointly taken by the regional Director and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information posted in Dacca. Dacca Betar Kendra had announced in their local Bengali news bulletin at 1-30 P.M. yesterday that they will relay the Race Course rally of Awami League. The announcement was repeated at 2-10 P.M. immediately after the news bulletin relayed from Karachi and took the listeners to the race course ground.

But as Mujib arrived late at the Race Course the Dacca Beter Kendra continued  with their programme of recorded songs. At 3-20 P.M.  when Dacca Beter Kendra was about to relay Mujib's speech the radio officials on duty were told that they cannot broadcast Mujib's speech without the prior approval of the martial law authorities. The radio officials on duty then left the broadcasting house.

The Savar and Mirpur transmission centres also did not work as the people working in these two transmission centres joined the non-cooperation movement.

A hand made bomb was thrown inside the broadcasting house later in the evening according to a police source. No damage was, however, caused by the explosion.
