Immediate transfer of power to elected representatives urged

Nawabshah, June 1 (APP):

Mr. Z.A. Bhutto, Chairman of the P.P.P. Monday reiterated his stand that the current political crisis in the country could only be solved through immediate transfer of power to the elected representatives of masses.

He said that the political problems and issues could not be solved unless these were tackled by those who were accustomed with the politics and abreast with the happenings in the country.

Addressing a big gathering to party workers and students, who had come from all over the district, Mr. Bhutto said time had come when the transfer of power should be made to those, who cherish the trust of the people so that the elected representatives could fulfill their political and economic programmes.

"This is the decision taken by the people and it must materialise at its earliest." Mr. Bhutto added. "Our lives are with the people and assure you that whatever promises we made at the time of election will be fulfilled even at the cost of our lives," he added.

Accusing the old politicians for the prevailing conditions in the country, Mr. Bhutto said, "Our opponents have now suddenly become well-wishers of Sind but what were they doing for the last 23 years that they have now turned the well- wishers of Sind."

He said that when Pakistan had not come into being they used to raise slogans for the creation of Pakistan and they got approved the Pakistan and they got approved the Pakistan resolution from the Sind Assembly and now when 23 years have passed since the creation of Pakistan, they are clamouring against it. He said they are hypocrites. How trust can be reposed in such elements who were brazenly talking against the integrity of Pakistan, he asked.

Mr. Bhutto said that struggle can be waged against a particular system in the country, it can be waged against the capitalistic system but for this purpose they should not wipe out Pakistan because in production of this system was not that of Pakistan.

Mr. Bhutto said that Pakistan is a land comprising of five provinces and it cannot be powerful country unless the five provinces are strengthened. He said that he will not commit the blunder that Sheikh Mujib committed and "I will not allow the youth of Sind be ruined like the ruination brought by Sheikh Mujib on the youth of East Pakistan. He said, "I will not show the youth of Sind a wrong path but I will lead them to the right path. Mr. Bhutto said that the people's governments were supposed to take over in the centre and the provinces offer the creation of the National Assembly and making of a constitution in 120 days. "But due to worst conditions in East Pakistan our hopes could not materialise and it was such an intense crisis that impeded the imposition of legal framework and transfer of power could not be made to the elected representatives."

The People's Party chairman said that those who were defeated in the elections should not take advantage of the crisis in East Pakistan and they must not engage themselves in machinations against the people. If they are patriots they should not work to make additions to the sufferings of the people which are already on the peak.

Earlier, Mr. Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, MNA-elect Mr. Hakim Ali Zardari, MNA-elect and Kazi Mohammad Bhakhsh, Chairman District People's Party also addressed the gathering.

Mr. Bhutto left for new Jatoi in the evening from where he will proceed to Dadu.

Crisis for destroying Pakistan Unrealistic senselessness : Abdullah

Rawalpindi, June 1 (APP):

Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, the Kashmiri leader, has said that while expressing its anxiety about the right of self determination for the people of East Pakistan, India has forgotten the role she had been playing in Kashmir for the last 23 years.

According to Radio Pakistan sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, in an interview with the Indian newspaper Rehnuma-e-Dacca, said this conflict of words and deeds provided food for thought for all the freedom-loving people. Kashmir he said, was a world issue involving the right of self-determination of 50 lakh people and they would continue their struggle till their goal was achieved.

Sheikh Abdullah said that almost all countries in the world were of the view that India had been at the back of the events in East Pakistan prompted by its own vested interests. He said the scar created by the Indian press about the so-called Bangladesh was far from reality. He said it appeared that India's vested interests were trying to create an atmosphere for another war with Pakistan. He warned that those who were trying to drag India to war were doing disservice to their country and they would soon realise the gravity of their mistake.

Sheikh Abdullah described the cries for destroying Pakistan as unrealistic and senselessness.

Sheikh Monammed Abdullah was of the view that President Yahya Khan was left with no choice but to do what he did to save Pakistan's unity and integrity, He said no government in the World would tolerate movements that were designed to disintegrate the country.

Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had started civil disobedience movement and ignored the fact that he was going to become the Prime Minister of his country as declared by the Pakistani President himself.

Referring to the six points of the outlawed Awami league, Sheikh Abdullah particularly referred to the demand for making foreign trade a regional subject. he said no government in the world would ever accept such a demand.

He also said that a plan had been prepared for massacre of non-Bengali people in East Pakistan and a campaign of hatred started against West Pakistan. He hoped that while expressing sympathy with East Pakistan, the Indian Government would realise the importance of undertaking a realistic and extremely careful policy on the issue.

Mujib's views had no popular support, say Iranian dailies

Islamabad, June 1 (APP):

Two Iranian dailies have said it was evident from the support the Pakistan Government received from the people of East Pakistan in restoring law and order in the province that the views of Sheikh Mujib had no popular support there.

Quoting political observers one of the dailies, Farman, in a recent issue said that the complete victory of the central Government in controlling the East Pakistan situation clearly showed that the behaviour and viewpoint of the Awami league leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not have the general support.

The people of Pakistan had ever since independence proved on many occasions that they were against any action intended to divide the country, the paper said. It added that the suppression of the baseless secessionist movement is, in fact, the victory of a nation. A Muslim nation which knows how to value unity and integrity and has used all the resources in its power to defend its independence and integrity. The daily supported the Pakistan Government's action for the preservation of the country's unity and integrity and said had the Government not taken a swift and decisive action in East Pakistan, the Awami league leader would have taken Pakistan to the verge of disaster.

The other daily, Mehre Iran, said that the clear support given by the general public in the province to the steps taken by the Government resulted in a humiliating defeat for the secessionist elements.

Actually this victory of the Central Government over the East Pakistan secessionists would not have been displayed without the full support of the nation, the paper remarked. The Daily, in a recent editorial, said that the anti-state elements who constituted a group of only a handful of persons had not restrained themselves from adopting all the tactics of instigation and destruction to achieve their ulterior motives. But the Pakistan Government with the unstinted support of the people of the province was able to annihilate their nefarious designs, it added.

Another Iranian newspaper, Azhang, said that the elements intending to create disturbances in Pakistan and trying to divide it, have been completely routed as a result of timely action taken by the Government and the awareness of the people.

The Pakistani nation has how under the wise leadership of President Yahya Khan re-started on its path in quest of progress and elevation, the paper added.
