Indian Army kills 300 E. Pakistanis in Balurghat

Dinajpur, 10 June (APP):

The Indian Army has killed about 300 East Pakistanis belonging to the so-called Mukti Bahini (Liberation army of the defunct Awami league) in the Balurghat area of West Bengal, according to reports reaching here today from across the border.

They had refused to infiltrate into East Pakistan because of insufficient training, the reports added.

Meanwhile people returning Dinajpur from India narrated tales of Indian atrocities and maltreatment meted out to bonafide Pakistanis who earlier crossed the border into India misled by false Indian propaganda.

The Indian authorities had also arrested the Sub-Divisional Food Controller of Dinajpur, Choudhury Motiur Rahman and prevented him from returning to East Pakistan, they said.

Mr. Rahman had crossed the border during the recent turmoil but was soon disillusioned. He wanted to return to his homeland along with his countrymen. But Indian authorities did not allow them to do so.

It may be pointed out that India is obstructing bonafide Pakistanis from returning to their homeland with the sole object of trading on their miseries and mobilising international aid on that plea to boost up her deteriorating economy.

According to another report, bodies of large number of people who have died of cholera on the Indian side of the border are being thrown into the rivers flowing into East Pakistan. some bodies were found in river Bhugai in Mymensingh area the other day.

They authorities have warned the people not to use river water as it is feared to have been contaminated from the dead bodies.

the authorities have taken adequate measures to check the outbreak of epidemics. People have been advised to get themselves inoculated at the earliest.

4,000 enter E. Pakistan from India

People are returning to their home in increasing numbers from across the border, reports APP.

As many as 4,000 returnees entered Dinajpur district on Wednesday. Today, 150 persons reported to the relief camp at Godagari in Nawabgonj sub-division of Rajshahi district and 200 others crossed over into Meherpur and Chuadanga subdivisions of Kustia District. Necessary arrangements have been made to receive these persons and to reach them to their home.

India adopting dilatory tactics

Islamabad, June 10 (APP):

Pakistan today accused India of deliberately adopting dictatory tactics and keeping alive the issue of repatriation of personnel from Dacca and Calcutta with the sole object of maintaining at high pitch the tension between the two countries.

Elaborating this, a Foreign office spokesman said whereas Pakistan had taken initiative to resolve the impasse and accepted various proposals to effect the evacuation of personnel, the Indian Government had refused to fulfill its commitments rather she had been constantly changing its stands on the question of enabling the Pakistani Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Mehdi Masud, to meet the Pakistani staff in Calcutta and ascertain their wishes with regard to their evacuation to Pakistan.

The spokesman said on May 10, Pakistan had proposed that a representative of the Swiss Government should be present as witness at separate meeting between the Pakistani Deputy High Commissioner in Calcutta, Mr. Mehdi Masud, and the East Pakistani staff. After initially agreeing to this proposal, the Indian Government back-pedalled and suggested that the Swiss representative should himself arrange the meeting between Mr. Mehdi Masud and Pakistani staff who are alleged by the Indian Government to have defected.

According to the spokesman, this was a devious way to shift responsibility from India's shoulders to the Swiss representative, the Government of Pakistan could riot agree to this because it was for the Government of India to fulfill its assurances and arrange the meetings.

Returning Pakistanis (Editorial)

More Pakistanis who had left their homes and taken shelter in neighbouring areas are making their way back home. All arrangements have been made to receive them. Bonafide Pakistanis have nothing to fear. Clicking at the border is only meant to ensure that thousands of homeless people in West Bengal do not slip in pretending to the Pakistanis. But as far as genuine returnees are concerned everything possible is being done to facilitate their return. Complete arrangements have been made so that the returnees get food, accommodation and medical care at the reception camps, from where they will be provided transport to their homes. In their own interests, returnees should take recognised routes on which camps have been set up. By June 20 all the camps will be functioning.

Pakistan's attitude is in sharp contrast to India's. India have been shedding crocodile tears about 'refugees' from East Pakistan, but has been systematically pushing out Indian Muslims from border areas. Why does she not take them back? At the same time, however, she has been trying to prevent Pakistanis from returning home. India has inflated the figures of-refugees' and succeeded in getting Rs. 120 millions in foreign exchange on the pretext of looking after them. Of course, she does all this on 'humanitarian' grounds. Her exploitation of these 'refugees' is as brazen as it is cruel.

Ready to shed last drop of blood for integrity

Kishorganj, June 10 (APP):

Mr. Syed Muslehuddin, President of the Sub-divisional peace committee said that Pakistanis are ready to fight to their last drop of blood for the welfare and integrity of the country.

He was addressing a meeting held under the auspices of Sub-divisional Peace Committee and the members of the public to carry out day to clay work with full vigour and energy and not be misled by any rumors propagated by anti-Pakistani elements.

Among others professor Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Mr. Shafiqul Hussain (Advocate), Mr. Badruzzaman (Mukhtear), Mr. Abu lais spoke in the meeting. Resolutions were passed paying tribute to the Armed Forces for the defence of Pakistan.
