India moves Reservists along East Pak border

Lahore, June 14 (APP)

India has moved her reservists to the border along East Pakistan in support of her regular troops who are already lost to the East Pakistan-lndian boundary line.

This was stated by lieutenant General Tikka Khan, the East Pakistan Governor while taking to newsmen at the VIP lounge of the Lahore Airport on his arrival here tonight from Dacca via Karachi.

He said with the movement of the reservists India was in a position to adopt both offensive and defensive postures towards Pakistan at will.

But, Gen. Tikka Khan further said, Pakistani troops were also on the borders although they did not fire into Indian territory.

However, according to him Indian troops gave fire support from across the border to the saboteurs who occasionally created trouble inside Pakistani territory.

He said the saboteurs were deserters of the Pakistan army who wanted to set up Bangladesh. But, He remarked, Bangladesh existed in India alone. Asked what sort of trouble was being created by the saboteurs, he replied "They lay odd mines here and there." He said in army language "we call these as nuisance mines."

The East Pakistan Governor said the Indians were creating lot of terror near the border and spreading such rumours as "fighting will take place." If(, said the Pakistan Armed Forces were trying their best to remove fright from the minds of the people living in border areas. "while we create sense of confidence. the Indians create sense of fear for the displaced persons" he said "India do not let the displaced persons come back to their homes."

Speaking more about the displaced persons he said 2 1 reception centres had been established in East Pakistan for the returning Pakistani citizens.

He said from 8.000 to 10,000 had come back till saturday last in addition to 4,000 to 5,000 who had come through unrecognised routes, he added. He said the displaced persons were provided all the necessary facilities on their way back home from India.

At Karachi PPI adds:

(Lt. Gen.) Tikka Khan, earlier said in Karachi his Government was fully prepared to meet the situation arising out of any possible border infiltrations during the monsoons.

He flew in here from Dacca today en route to Rawalpindi for the Governors' conference and the National Economic Council meeting.

Talking to journalists at the Karachi Airport, he said situation in his province was peaceful and returning to normalcy. There had been some cases of bridge blowing

and other sabotage activities on the border by the Indian infiltrators but this had now been controlled.

Returnees

The Governor debunked the Indian propaganda and said that following the return home appeal by the president and the general amnesty call given by him, people had begun returning to their homes.

He said the amnesty declaration applied to political workers also and expressed the hope that they would take advantage of it.

The Governor said situation in East Pakistan should be taken into account before settling the power transfer issue.

As for now, industries had begun functioning and the workers were returning to their jobs. The city of Dacca was almost normal now and the port in Chittagong and Chalna were their full swing.

"We have already exported raw jute and other goods and have reached the monthly export target for the last month" he said.

The East-wing Governor further said that the food situation was also under control. There has been a bit of movement difficulty but there is no shortage of' foodgrains. Moreover, there has been a good boro crop and the jute crop was also not bad. Nearly 80 per cent area was under cultivation, he added.
