Economic adviser to the President, Mr. M.M. Ahmed, said here today that Pakistan had made it clear that it would not accept foreign assistance with political strings.
Mr. Ahmed who was explaining salient features of new central budget at a press conference here was asked to comment on reports that some foreign countries were seeking to put political pressure while considering Pakistan's request for aid.
The economic adviser recalled his yesterday's remarks in his budget speech that attitude of some of aidgiving countries constituted an attempt to influence our, domestic political situation which was wholly contrary to their own professions that aid to developing countries was without strings.
Asked whether the government were ready with plans in case of stoppage of foreign aid Economic Adviser replied, "We have alternative plan" which would be revealed at appropriate time.
The Economic adviser was also asked whether he had taken note of British official statement that British aid to Pakistan was linked with this country's efforts to settle Pakistan situation. questioner also suggested, could not Pakistan do without British aid.
The Economic Adviser said that British aid amounted to about 10 million pounds a
year and seven percent of consortium aid. he said that in event of any strings been
attached to such assistance Pakistan could do without not only 10 million pounds
but even more. Mr. Ahmed said that total foreign aid estimated for new fiscal year
amounted Rs. 256 crores. It included Rs. 216 crores from past comitments and remaining

concluded. He further said that foreign aid comprised Rs. 101 crore of commodity

The Economic Adviser said that aid in pipeline would do until October when Pakistan request for rescheduling of debts and international commitments was likely to be considered by the consortium.
Spelitting itself into two groups, the British parliamentary delegation yesterday paid seperate visits to Sylhet and Barisal areas, reports APP.

Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Chairman of the Pakistan People's Party today asked his friends and partymen not to hurry to make any comment on president General A.M. Yahya Khan, broadcast to the nation fixed for June 28.

Mr. A.T.M. Abdul Mateen, former Deputy speaker of National Assembly of Pakistan, has vehemently, criticised the aid giving countries for using foreign aid asan instrument of coercion and interference into the internal affairs of a soverign country, reports APP.

it is time the nation fully understands the implications of Indian propaganda and unnecessary involvement in our internal affairs. Nation must rise and unite against undue interference under aid cover. "Pakistan was not created through backdoor or any conspiracy. It cost millions of Muslim lives and tons of Muslim blood to establish Pakistan and for what purpose? Certainly not for making it the hotbed of international power politics and a germinating ground for global intrigues. Pakistan was established on the basis of Muslim nationalism with a definite commitment to implement Islamic values and ideology. If any foreign aid fits in with our national objective, it is most welcome.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Kasuri said the Government of India and its publicity media were hailing the decsion of the consortium as a great diplomatic victory for India. By declining to accept further aid from the consortium Pakistan could turn Indian victory into defeat.

of aid to Pakistan has attracted active attention of the people of Pakistan who regard
this decision as a proof of attempt at foreign intervention in the internal affairs
