Mahathero to visit more places

Chittagong, (APP)

Venerable Visuddhananda Mahathero, President, Pakistan Bouddha Kristi Prachar Sangha has completed his tour to various Buddhist areas of Chittagong comprising more than 3,000 miles.

In his sincere observation, Venerable Mahathero feels that his presence to the Buddhists of Pakistan in the prevailing situation has exhilarated the Buddhists to stand with esteem, patriotism, determined aspiration, conscientious spirit, strong character, courage and presence to protect the solidarity of Pakistan by all means.

Venerable Mahathero leaves Chittagong for Dacca to under take his further tour to various other places of East Pakistan, which will include Khulna, Patuakhali, Comilla and Noakhali in particular.

Salman Ali confers with Greenhil

London (Reuter)

The Pakistan High Commissioner here, Mr. Salman Ali yesterday called at the British Foreign and commonwealth office at his own request and discussed the situation in Pakistan, informed British sources said.

They declined to disclose details of the 15 minute meeting between the High Commissioner and Mr. Denis Greenhil, Permanent Under secretary (top career diplomat) at the Foreign and Commonwealth office.

Yahya's broadcast welcomed

Mr. Md. Abdus Sakoor, Acting Secretary General, Pakistan peace and welfare council, in a statement congratulated president Yahya Khan for his strong, firm and straight forward broadcast which has opened a new era for the regeneration of Islamic principles based and equality, fraternity and social justice on which the creation of Pakistan was based, reports APP.

He said the president's broadcast has given a great opportunity for all those who believe in Islam and Pakistan to sink all their personal and political differences and unite for the task of building the nation marching forward for the greater glory of Pakistan."

Captain Zaidi

Pabna: Captain Syed Asghar Hosain Zaidi, a former central Parliamentary secretary and chairman of the Pabna district peace committee and prominent Muslim League leader of Pabna, has congratulated the president General Agha Mohammad Yahya Khan for his stand to safeguard the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan at any cost.

Mr. Zaidi said: 'His decision to transfer power without nullifying the whole election is appreciated by the people of Pabna. We are proud that we have worthy supreme commander to guide our brave armed forces, who have proved their capabilities in 1965 and during the recent attack on Pakistan by Indian agents to destroy its integrity and solidarity. His bold decision for the improvement of economic condition of the people of Pakistan and refusal to accept any aid with strings attached, will remain written in golden letters in the history of Pakistan.

"We also hope that those responsible to break the peaceful atmosphere of the country and bring the country to the verge of economic collapse and take up arms against the state will not go unpunished. We assure the president that we are behind him.

Siddique Ahmed

Chittagong

Maulana Siddique Ahmed, Secretary-General of All Pakistan Central Jamiat-ul-Ulama-e-Islam and Nizam-e-Islam Party, has in a statement warmly welcomed the speech of the president of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and congratulated him on his firm policy of restoration of democracy in the country.

He warned the Prime Minister of India to take advantage of the opportunity given to her by our president and to desist from an irrational policy adopted by India against her neighbours particularly Pakistan of interfering in their internal affairs and keeping tension amongst them leading to catastrophe in the shape of deadly war which will lead India to nowhere.

Chittagong Chamber

The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry has extended its wholehearted approval to president Yahya's June 28 broadcast and noted with satisfaction the assurance of the president that law and order will be safeguarded against internal and external threats.

In a special meeting of Chamber's Executive Committee held yesterday, its president, Khaja Mohiuddin, moved a resolution seconded by Mr. Delwar Hossain, endorising president's declaration that no foreign aid which interferes with the sovereignty of Pakistan will be acceptable to the nation.

The Chittagong chamber expressed its belief in the common destiny of East and West Pakistan and was confident that with the blessing of Allah, the country forward to glory and greatness.

Mr. Mahmuddun Nabi

Md. Mohmuddin Nabi Chowdhury, Convener and Mr. Badiul Alam, Secretary of Chittagong District Peace Committee, in a joint statement hailed the president's policy statement that power is hoped to be transferred in about four months to the people's representatives and all bye-elections will be held to fill the vacant seats in the National and provincial assemblies.

They said after such categorical statement, there should not be any doubt in any quarter within and outside the country about the sincerity of purpose of the president in the establishment of a democratic society based on Islamic principle.

Iqbal Ahmed

Advocate Iqbal Ahmed, chief organiser, All Pakistan Central Jamiyat- ul- e-Ulema and Nizam-e- Islam Party, who is presently on a tour of East Pakistan, has released a press statement in Chittagong welcoming the policy statement of president Yahya.

Mr. Mohammad Ilyas: Convener, Mr. M. A. Sabur and Mr. S.M. Mahjudul Haque Joint conveners of the Industrial peace sub-committee of the Chittagong District Peace Committee, in a joint statement congratulated the president for his statement like policy address to the nation on June 28. The leaders said that the president has taken the wisest steps in regard to transfer of power, restoration of normalcy and to maximise production

They said the president has rightly called upon the workers and management to keep good relation, maximise production avoid strike and lock-out to ensure notional prosperity.

They further said that all the patriotic elements should now come up and extend their hand of co-operation to execute the scheme of the president as the same is the only way for the nation to survive in the comity of nations.

More aid for Pak refuges in India

Geneva (Reuter)

Aid to East Pakistani refugees in India is being stepped up with more than 160 million dollars in cash and goods already pledged through the United Nations or directly by Governments and voluntary agencies, it was announced here today.

The office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, which is acting as the focal point for U.N. aid, said that this sum the aid pledge through the United Nations amounted to 46 million dollars of which ten million dollars worth had been handed over to India while considerably more was already in the pipeline.

People asked to form defence parties in every village

The General Secretary of East Pakistan Jamaat-e- Islami, Mr. A Khaleque appealed to the patriotic people to come forward unitedly to undo the evil activities of the anti-Pakistani miscreants and also asked them to form defence party in every village and to guard the places of public interest.

Addressing a public meeting at Akhaura he said the imperialist India never tolerates the very existence of Pakistan; so by hook or by crook she wants liquidation of Pakistan. Being defeated in the war of 1965 she took up direct process for weakening Pakistan and separating East Pakistan from the rest of the country through her agents. The Brahmin Indians tried every way to destroy the Unity among the Muslims through baseless progapgnda, he added.

The meeting was held under the auspicious of the local peace committee and presided over by Prof. Habibur Rahman, Convener, Brahmanbaria Sub-divisional Peace Committee.

Foreign press collaborating with India

Karachi, (APP)

Political observers said here today that if India today embarked on a wild military venture on her eastern borders, a good part of the responsibility will lie on the foreign press which has been egging her on.

They were commenting on Peter Hazesbursts interview with Mrs. Indira Gandhi in the London Times yesterday in which he listed three provocative alternatives designed to deepen the tension between India and Pakistan.

This is in implementation of the all-out campaign launched by India, with the help of her, foreign collaborators, to browbeat Pakistan into compromising her sovereignty through threats of armed intervention on behalf of Awami League secessionists.

Latest Indian armed infiltrations and intrusions into East Pakistan indicate that Indian leaders have already embarked on measures to give practical shape to their threats of war.

During recent weeks, there have been large scale Indian acts of aggression along the East Pakistan borders and Pakistan has lodged repeated protests against this aggression. But India is still persisting in her .....

Following its armed misadventure in East Pakistan, India has changed its tactics and is, highlighting the so-called influx of refugees and telling the world the internal affairs of Pakistan have quickly become the problem of India herself.
