Captured soldiers says

Indian regulars involved in attacks on East Pak borders.

Six Indian soldiers who were captured in action on Saturday near Dharniadaha in Kushtia district yesterday admitted involvement of Indian regular troops in attacks on East Pakistan borders, reports APP.

The captured Indian soldiers belong to one Naga battalion of 7 Mountain Brigade which froms a part of four mauntain divisions their names are : Naik Tara Uat1 Joshi, Sepoy Brij Mohan Singh, Sepoy Bassanto Bahadur Thapa. Sepoy Gaypal Singh. Sepoy Narayan Datt and Sepoy Sishan Singh, Sepoy Bishan Singh comes from Nepal while all others belonging to UP (India)

Naik Tara Datta Joshi and other prisoners belong to "D" company commanded by Major T. Ao. The name of their Battalian Commander is Lt. Col. R. N. Mahajan.

Naik Joshi said the First Naga Battalian was stationed at Ranikhel in Almora district (U.P). till August this year when he proceeded on annoual leave. He was recalled in September and rejoined the battalion at Durgapur. On October 17 the battalion moved to Krishna Najar from where it want to I3ahrarupur, four south of Murshidabad in West Bengal. Early this month, the battalion at Shikarpur opposite Uharamdaha in Kushtia district.

Naik Joshi said that they attacked Pakistan village with two companies and a few hundred Indian agents on Friday night under the cover of darkness-. His company commander, Major T. Ao. was also with them while they were digging their positions near Dhanmadaha, a Kushtia village about two miles inside Pakistan territory, the rest of the battalion and its Commanding Officer R. N. Mahajan joined them there.

Naik Joshi, who is educated upto 8th class that they had recoiless rifles. mortars, heavy, medium and light machine guns, rocket launchers and automatic rifles (SLR).

Narrating his experience on the day of his arrest, Naik Joshi said that on Saturday morning they suddenly realised that they had been surroundered by Pakistan troops when shells of three inch mortars started landing killing many of them. there was also small arms fire. "We tried to run away but Pakistan troops had come very close. We felt our weapons and raised our hands to surrender" he said.

When asked as to why they did not Know that they were surrounded, Naik Joshi said, "There were tall sugarcane fields. Moreover, we were told that the area had been 'liberated.'

Talking of so called "liberated" areas, he said that achievements of Indian agents were grossly exaggerated by Indian radio and Press. He added that these agents are selected from displaced persons and trained in Indian military camps set up along the border.

About the return of displaced persons now in India. Naik Tara Datta Joshi said that they, like Indian BSF personnel, had the orders not to let anybody get back to East Pakistan. "If any body insisted on returning he was to be shot dead."

Naik Tara Datta Joshi who hails from village Meldurngari in Pitharap_arh district (UP) misses his only son and wife. He was married eight years ago.

Farman asks workers to sink all differences

Khulna. Nov. 14. (APP) : Major General Rao Farman Ali Adviser to Governor of East Pakistan called upon the industrial workers to sink all their differences and stand united to help reactivise the pace of industrial development in the country.

The General, Speaking at a big workers rally at Khalishpur Housing Estate ground arranged under the auspices of' East Pakistan Federation of labour, further advised the workers to increase production in the mills which ultimately benefit the country as well as the workers and management. He said that the present Government always looked after the welfare of the workers and said that during 1969 the Government had increased the wages of the labourers from Rs. 86 to 125. I lc impressed upon the workers that unless the production in the mills was increased and peace maintained the management would not be in a position in crease the emoluments of workers.

Referring to industrial trade unionism. The General said that the workers shout not indulge in political trade unionism which would not bring any good to them but added that a healthy trade union would help in the development of an ideal labour force in the country which would go a long way in shaping the country as one of the economically developed country in the comity of nation.

Referring to the threat of war from India the General amidst loud cheers said that our armed forces are ready to repulse the aggression.

He said that no external forces would be able to disintegrate the solidarity and integrity of Pakistan. In this connection the General refered to the circumstances, which led to the creation of Pakistan under the leadership of' Quaid-e-Azain to safeguard the interest of 'the Muslims of the sub-continent against the exploitation of the Hindus. He pointed out that the development which had taken in Kliulna, Chittagong and other places were only after partition and added that before independence seize places were used as a hinterland for exploitation by the Hindus.

Referring to so-called Bangladesh propaganda by India the General asked the Indian authorities to accord independent status to West Bengal and not harm East Pakistan Replying seharm East Pakistan. Replying to an address of' welcome presented to him on behalf' of East Pakistan Federation of' labour. General Rao Forman Ali assured the workers that their demands would be looked into.

Mr. Saifur Rahnian, Acting President of East Pakistan Federation of- labour opened the workers rally with a short speech.

The General left for Dacca in the afternoon.

US team to study causes of Indo-Pak tension.

United Nations (New York), Nov. 14 (APP) : President Nixon has named a sixman commission to leave for a tour of Pakistan and India December. 1, United Nations sources said today.

The commission will study the Pakistan refugee situation and the causes 01 border tension between the two countries.

E. Wing people want Pakistan to remain United, says Amin.

Lahore, Nov. 14 (APP) : Mr. Nurul Amin, President of the Pakistan Democratic Party said here today that the people of East Pakistan except a small number disgruntted persons, wanted Pakistan to remain one and united.

Speaking at an ifter reception held in his honour by the Lahore branch of the PDP at the party office, he said only some of the youth were misled by the Indian propaganda and secessionist Awami leaguers.

He said the average East Pakistani was facing the situation in East Pakistan very boldly and patriotically.

Despite the bomb blasts every now and then by the Indian infiltrators, normal business of life in East Pakistan was undisturbed. Offices, factories, educational institutions, business centres opened normally.

He said for complete normalcy in East Pakistan, however, there was need for giving training to more Razakars. There were, he added, a lot of patriotic Pakistanis who wanted to be trained in dealing with the Indian agents who were creating trouble after getting training in India. He said only volunteers in East Pakistan could control the enemy guerilla activity as they were the persons who could identify enemy more easily. He said the Razakars would also be a,L),rcat help in directly dealing with the enemy.

Mr. Nurul Amin also emphaised the need for unity at national level as well as provincial level and said it was no time for indulging in party politics.

lie said least that the country's political parties could do was to preserve the Pakistan as entrusted to the nation by the Quaid-e-Azam although he said it was not complete Pakistan as conceived by him.

He called upon his party workers to teach people to get united and not indulge in petty politics.

Later, President of the West Pakistan PDP, Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan said certain politicians indulged in character assassination of those personalities which stood for the national unity and integrity to create problems for the country which is divided by 1,000 miles ofenemy territory. t le said activities on such elements and (ascits should be checked.

Indian MPs call for debate on Indo-Pak tension.

New Delhi, Nov. 14 (Reuter) : The Government and Opposition Members of the Indian Parliament today called for a debate tomorrow on the tension along the borders with Pakistan.

The Defence Minister, Mr. Jagjivan IZam, will speak in the discussion to be held as soon as Parliament reconvenes after a three month recess.

Dacca Jamaat asks people to get ready for war with India. (By Our Staff Reporter)

The newly elected Majlis-e-shoora of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dacca yesterday expressed grave concern over wanton acts of aggression by India and appealed to the people to unite together and prepare Themselves for holy war against her.

The Jamaat in a resolution adopted in the inaugural session of the Majlis-e­Shoora also appealed to the big powers to effectively exert their influence on India to see reason and accept proposals for peaceful settlement of Indo-Pak disputes.

The Majlis was of the considered opinion that the world powers would be tailing in their duties if they did not stop India in her direct and naked interference in Pakistan's internal affairs. But if India did not see reason, and continued to meddle in the internal affairs of Pakistan through criminal acts of sabotage and shelling of borders, the Majlis thought that Pakistan shall have no alternative but to fight out to the last to save her territorial Sovereignty and Insha Allah. in that case Pakistan would come out victorious giving crushing defeat to Brahmin India.

The Majlis in a resolution said the deterioration of the law and order situation in the provincial metropolis and other places of the province was matters of grave concern to the members of the Majlis-e-Shoora. It was the considered opinion of the Majlis that, well effective, actions were necessary for the effective control of the evil designs of the armed miscreants.

In this connection, the Majlis urged upon the people to develop united resistance against the public enemies and help the authorities to control the situation. Finally, the Majlis also strongly urged upon Government to make The Razakar institution more effective by giving them superior arms and granting them adequate powers to deal with the miscreants squarily.

The Majlis-e-shoora. Sounded a strong note of warning to the Brahminic imperialist India who had been creating wanton acts of aggression in the frontier areas of East Pakistan and also who was engaged in brutal trade on the miseries of the displaced East Pakistanis to desist from such nefarious. heinous and inhuman designs. Other wise the East Pakistanis shoulder to shoulder, with the valiant armed forces shall give exemplary teaching to the Indian war mongers to silence their force of weapons forever.

Delhi journalist says

False reports about East Wing events encouraged tension with in India.

New Delhi, Nov. 14 (PPI) The well-known Indian journalist sumantu Banerjee has said that exaggerated and false reports by the Indian news media about the events in East Pakistan have encouraged inter state tensions and fissiparous and secessionist tendencies in India.

In an article published in the latest issue of New Delhi Monthly "The seminar" he said these reports sought to pose the entire fight in Bangladesh as one between Punjabis and Bengalis, thus encouraging provincial tension with India.

"The Indian news media, he said, stressed the atrocities on the Hindus in a bid to given it a communal tone.

Sumanta Banerjee who is a special correspondent of the statesman. said. "The expression credibility gap has gained much currency ever since reports in the Indian newspapers about the early success of the "Bangladesh" liberation forces were found to be magnified.

"Its appears to have stemmed from an innocent wishful thinking the fond hope that the liberation forces would win the struggle within few days," he added.

The Indian journalist said, news black out, imposed later by the advancing Pakistan forces bred wild rumours like the death of General Tikka Khan or the escape of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to India.

"Our newspapers made the most of any hopeful sign, he added.

He said while exaggerations based on such thinking indicated a pitiable lack of any sense of responsibility, by hindsight they could be dismissed as less dangerous.

This, he said, cannot be said of some reports on "Bangladesh" in Indian and foreign newspapers which betrayed a mischievous tendentiousness.

Close ranks and face challenge posed by India : -Majumder.

Feni (Noakhali), Nov. 14 (APP) : East Pakistan Minister for Health. Mr. Obaidullah Majumber, has called upon the people to close their rank at this critical time and prepare themselves to face the challenge posed by India to the nation.

Addressing a meeting of the cross-section of people at the Alia Madrassa Hall here on Friday, he urged them to prevail upon our youths to came back from across the border without any fear and start their academic life and other a vocations anew. This is in their own as well as the nation's interest, he added. He said that the youngmen who went over to India being misled by India should be now realise that she (India) was exploiting them for her own benefit.

India, he added, was bent upon destroying Pakistan through secession of East Pakistan. She is piloting it vigorously both at home and abroad.

He assured the youths now living in India that they had nothing to fear alter the general amnesty granted by the President Yahya Khan. He, therefore, appealed to them to come back and dedicate themselves to building the country on sound tooting.

In this context, he said that knowledge is power and to destroy that power India had unleashed her agents to damaged educational institutions in the province and disrupt academic life only to keep the people of East Pakistan under perpetual ignorance. If was now time to ponder why our enemies were so intent in destroying educational institutions.

He told the gathering that the outside world had by now fully realised the stunt behind the so-called "Bangladesh" movement which, he said, was engineered by India to fulfill her heinous designs taking advantage of the internal situation of Our country.

He informed the gathering that a fifty bed modern hospital costing rupees eight lakh would be taken up shortly at Feni.

Later the Minister visited the local college and donated Rs. 600 to the college arid Rs. 500.00 to Alia Madrassa from his discretionary funds for the promotion of sports.

Azam Thanks well wishers (By Our Staff Reporter)

Prof. Ghulam Azam, Amir, Jamaat-e-Islami. East Pakistan has expressed his gratitude to all those who have congratulated him on his being elected unopposed as a member of the National Assembly.

In a statement on Saturday in Dacca, Prof. Azam regretted his in ability to reply individually to the innumerable friends and well-wishers in East Pakistan or their letters and telegrams.

India may take unilateral action.

London, Nov. 14 (PPI) : The Daily Telegraph has reported that the Indian Government is likely to decide to take unilateral action against Pakistan.

The paper quoting its New Delhi correspondent David Loshak. said on Wednesday last "one way in which India could take a decisive unilateral action would be to recognise "Bangladesh" the East Pakistan freedom movement.

The Indians feel that the only solution to recognise Bangladesh and give all out help to guerrillas, the paper said and added that this would certainly lead to war with Pakistan."

According to the paper. opinion is hardening in New Delhi that Mrs. Gandhi's tour has achieved relatively little which is of no political value.

This was admitted by Mr. K. C. Panth, the Home Minister who told the correspondent that "while there was better understanding in world capitals of India's position this had been followed by appropriate action and pressure against Pakistan.

Pakistan protests unprovoked Indian shellings

Islamabad Nov. 14 (APP) :The Government yesterday against continued and unprovoked shellings on Pakistan territory by Indian Army.

Taking a serious view of these incidents, the protest not added Pakistan has told India that, it reserved the right to claim compensation from the government of India for damage caused to life and property in East Pakistan.

The protest note dated November 13 enlisted the following incidents.

(1) On 25th October 1971, at 0500 hours. Indian Army fired 30 rounds of field guns on area Chuttipur, district Jessore.

(2) On 27th October 1971, at 1000 hours, Naga Army fired 20 rounds of field guns on the area Amalpur, district Jessore.

(3) On 28th October 1971, at 0600 to 1300 hours Indian Army fired 2000 rounds of field medium guns on the area Dhalai, District Sylhet, as a result of this wanton act three persons were killed and four wounded, Buildings and huts were also destroyed.

(4) On 28th October 1971, at 1700 hours, Indian Army fired 1 10 rounds of 3 inch motars on the area Phulgazi, districts Noakhali. As a result of this unprovoked shelling nine civilians were killed and 10 wounded.

(5) On 28th October 1971, at 0900 hours, Indian Army fired 12 rounds of field guns on the area Mayanpur district comilla, without any provocation. As a result of this wanton act one person was killed and one injured.

(6) On 28th October 1971, at 0045 hours, Indian Army fired 23 rounds of '3 Inch mortar on the area Kakdanga, district Khulan. As a result of which one person was injured.

(7) On 29th October 1971, at 1030 hours, Indian Army fired 33 rounds of 3 inch mortars on the area Benapole, district Jessore, without any provocation.

(8) On 28th October 1971, from 1530 to 1600 hours, Indian Army fired 12 rounds of field guns on the area Dhalai. District Sylhet.

(9) On 30th October 1971 at 2345 hours. Indian Army fired 16 rounds of field guns and five rounds of 3 inch mortars on the area Mandra, district Khulna.

(10) On 30th October 1971, at 0730 hours Indian Army fired 200 rounds of field guns on the area Chuttipur. district Jessore, without any provocation.

(11) On 30th October 1971, at 0730 hours, Indian Army fired 50 rounds of field guns on the area Amalpur, district Jessore.

Pakistanis firm to defend every inch of motherland

Sylhet, Nov. 14 (APP) : Mr. Nawazish Ahmed, Minister for Food and Agriculture has declared that Pakistanis were determined to defend every inch of the motherland and frustrate Indian designs.

The Minister, was addressing a cross section of people including local leaders educationists, members of the peace committee and the Razakars here yesterday.

Mr. Nawazish Ahmed said that despite serious Indian provocations and threats Pakistan did not want war. But, he said, if a war was thrust upon her. Pakistan was capable of inflicting a crushing blow on the enemy as in 1965. Ours would he a fight on ideological basis and Insha Allah with the strength of '"Tauhid' and 'Iman' our gallant forces and the patriotic people would not only succeed in defending the borders of the sacred motherland but also in teaching a good lesson to the invaders.

He added.

Mr. Nawazish Ahmed said that India could not stand the existence of Pakistan since its inception and she (India) took "every opportunity to cripple Pakistan's economy and destroy its ideology, the very basis of the nationhood. During the past month, he said, India has trained and sent armed infiltrators to carry on sabotage activities and ruin the economic infra-structure and cause untold misery to the innocent people including women and children."

Continuing the Minister said that in the name of so-called Bangladesh movement India had been trying to fulfill her ulterior motives of' disintegrating. Pakistan that she had no genuine sympathy for the displaced persons was evident from the recent statements of the Indian leaders, he said and added that it should be on eye opener to those who were so long playing in the hands of India to harm the country.

The Minister told the people of Sylhet that they joined the referendum and voted for Pakistan and it was they who from time to time repulsed the aggressive designs of India for which they deserved the admiration of all. He exhorted them to work unitedly forgetting all differences for progress of the country.

Mr. Nawazish Ahmed said that Government would shortly distribute the khas lands without salamee among the landless farmers who should make the best use of - them through horticulture.

Addressing the local officials the Minister said that they should work in close co-operation with the people in right earnest and missionary zeal and asked them to help the farmers in raising food production.

Later the Minister visited the cattle farm and Duncantea estate and talked to the members of management.

Earlier Mr. Nawazish Ahmed visited the Dargah of Hazrat Shah Jalal and offered Fateha there.

India exploiting refugee problem.

Paris, Nov. 14 (APP) : Pakistan Ambassador to France Mr. S.K Dehlavi has said that India was exploiting the refugee problem for political reasons.

In a letter to the Editor `Herald Tribune.' Paris, in reply to Mrs. Indira Gandhi statement at Brussels, Mr. Dehlavi asked the Indian leaders not to exploit the refugees for political reasons and let them return to their homes. This is the simple answer to the problem, he added.

Mr. Dehlavi said "while Mrs. Gandhi has said she has full confidence that the Indians would do nothing to provoke conflict or increase tension her ministers arc making threatening and irresponsible statements.

PPP leaders lauds armed forces.

Churchill Hasan Mir, MNA-elect and the leader of the PPP's third goodwill mission to East Pakistan yesterday lauded highly the patriotic activities of the gallant armed forces of Pakistan, reports PPI.

After returning from an extensive tour Of Jessore, he said I have just returned by road from Jessore, spent over night at Magura, crossing the Padma and Jumana by ferry and passing through Faridpur district, a total distance of 160 miles. I tell proud of our army who arc performing the patriotic duty of defending the country against Indian incursion with admirable determination.

"I had the most educative experience of meeting people from all walks of life and shall now be in a position to give a first hand report to my party.

"I can say that I have returned with a renewed hope."

3 killed, 3 hurt in Narayanganj shootings.

At least two persons were killed and three others wounded one of them seriously in unknown shooting in and around Narayanganj Saturday night, reports PPI.

Fazlul Karim, 50 of Jalalpur died in the Narayanganj Victoria Hospital, while the darwan of Karim Rubber Factory died on the spot at Jalkuri on the out skirts of Narayanganj town.

The Victoria Hospital sources said that one of the injured persons, Shah Alam 30, wounded in abdomen, was moved to the Dacca Medical College Hospital. Two others, Mamtazuddin wounded in Knee and Abdur Rahman 30 wounded in Thigh, were improving there.

Police registered both the incidents and were investigating into responsibility.

APP adds : One person was shot dead by unknown assailants at Mobarakshah Road under the Narayangonj Police Station yesterday morning, according to police sources.

Daultana endorses Amin's demand : Future PM. from EP.

Karachi, Nov. 14 (APP) : Mian Mumtaz Mohammad Khan Daultana. President of' the Pakistan council Muslim League to day fully endorsed Mr. Nurul Amin's demand that the future Prime Minister of Pakistan should be from East Pakistan.

Addressing his party workers at the party's office here, the CML, chief said that he fully supported Mr. Nurul Amin's contention that to allay the feelings of suspicion and frustration among the people of East Pakistan and to promote national solidarity it was necessary to have an East Pakistani as future Prime Minister of Pakistan. 

Mian Daultana, however, said that although this demand did not have any constitutional ground, yet judging it from the point of view of justice and to redress the grievances of the people of East Pakistan, it was all the more reasonable that the country had its future Prime Minister from East Wing.

He said that, however, if Mr. Z.A. Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party at all had majority in the assembly thereby entitling him to from the Government he would suggest that any East Pakistani member of the Pakistan People's Party should be the future Prime Minister.

Mr. Daultana underlined the gravity of the present situation created out of India's aggression against Pakistan. He said India had virtually started an undeclared war against Pakistan right from the day the incident of so-called hijacking of Indian plane "Ganga" in February last. She had adopted all necessary measures and made full preparation before it finally embarked on its present policy Undeclared war against Pakistan.

He said that now the Pakistanis should not wait for a formal declaration of war between the two countries. The war has already been forced on us by our enemy India. It is the bounden duty of each and every citizen to give a cruising reply to India's expansionist designs.

He said that the history of the nation was a testimony that the different political elements of a country got fully united in the face of external aggression. The solidarity and territorial integrity of the country were not monopoly to any particular group or party. Every body should sit together and make concerted efforts to repulse the enemy’s attack.
