Rumours about destruction of Chittagong port baseless

Chittagong, June 4 (APP):

The Chairman of Chittagong Port Trust said here that there was no truth in the rumour about the alleged destruction of the Chittagong Port. he said foreign ships were calling at the port as usual.

In a interview with APP the Chairman of the Chittagong Port once again stressed that no damage at all was done to any section of the port during the last disturbances and added that several foreign correspondents who recently visited the port were surprised to find to what extent the report about the Chittagong Port was baseless.

He said even during the days of disturbances, ships stood anchored at the Port. Some foreign ships had, of course, diverted their course and unloaded their cargo meant for Chittagong at Calcutta, Colombo and Singapore, he said. But, he added, it was a common practice with the ships because they could not wait and were always booked for other cargoes.

Talking about the present position of the port the Chairman said there is enough space for loading, unloading and storing goods at the port. As soon as ships come they can immediately unload their cargo without any difficulty, he added.

Replying to a question he said 1,30,000 tons of cargo were unloaded during the last month but added that the handling capacity of the port very much depends on country's requirements and import-export policy.

Talking about the development activities of the CPT, the Chairman said that the functions of the Trust have been completely reoriented. He said work in the jetty rehabilitation, i.e. reconstruction and extension of the six dismantled Jetties under the current plan period would resume soon. The foreign consultant engineer, who had been all along present in the city during the disturbances, has gone home on a short leave and would be returning soon.

He said preliminary work had been completed. All materials and machinery were present and everything was progressing according to schedule. He expressed the hope that work would be completed within the stipulated plan period. He said an agreement has also been signed with a Swedish firm for another scheme, namely slipway construction.

Opportunity for deserters to surrender

It was officially announced in Dacca yesterday that a number of serving personnel including some from East Bengal Regiment , East Pakistan Rifles and Police, misguided by the extremists and disloyal leaders deserted from the units, border outposts and thanas and were made to participate in anti-state activities during the recent disturbances, reports APP.

Majority of such persons, as per their service records, were loyal and faithful but by the few ambitious, greedy and self-seekers, were forced to fall in their camp.

All such elements are separated from their families and have realised the wrong path taken by them.

Understanding the circumstances under which such elements were made to deviate, an opportunity is provided to them to surrender to the nearest military authorities or police stations with or without their weapons. They can rest assured that for such voluntary surrender their cares will be considered compassionately. They should remember this would help them to join their homes and live as free citizens of the state.

Concept of Bangladesh being kept alive by India

London, June 4 (APP):

'1`e correspondent of the Times, London: has reported that the outlawed Awami league leadership has failed; and that the concept if Bangladesh is being kept alive by the Indian Government on almost every front.'

A report from its correspondent Peter Hazelhurst; datelined Calcutta, carried by the Times London, in its issue of June 2 on page 5, also confirmed that the so-called free Bangladesh was located in the Indian territory.

The report further said. "After weeks of silence the elusive under ground radio station'. Radio Free Bengal; was of the air again today claiming that the West Pakistan Army had been routed in several areas. 'I used a radio direction finding coil this morning to try to track the location of the radio which claims to be operating from somewhere inside Bangladesh.

To my amazement the direction finding coil indicated that the strong clear transmission was not coming from the direction of Bangladesh but emanating from the north on exactly the same bearing as All-India Radio broadcasts. Other Checks made from several points in the city pointed unerringly northwards towards Chinsura and Agra where All India Radio transmitters are located.'

The despatch continuing said that this did support the growing belief that the concept of Bangladesh is being kept alive by Indian Government on almost every front.

At. present, the corespondent said: an estimated 30,000 recruits are being trained by Indian instructors in about 30 camps near the border.

Today, the Pakistani nation is passing through most critical moment and a bitter acid test. At this serious moment of our national life when the very existence of our beloved motherland is threatened by the Indian infiltrators and the Hindustani leaders who never accepted the partition of India and have been trying to liquidate the historical and geographical boundary of India and Pakistan. I as a true citizen and patriot of Islamic Republic of Pakistan feel it my bounded duty to remind my countrymen, Aligarh old boys and specially my Dacca brothers to come forward and once again prove that they hate and condemn the Hindustani evil design and request them earnestly to co-operate with Martial Law Authority to crush Indian infiltrators, agents and their dalals, who are living among us under different pretext and in disguise. "I also appeal to the Aligarh old boys who fought for the establishment of Pakistan and created a history of their own. I as an old Aligarhian, would request all my old colleagues (seniors and Juniors) wherever they may be to stand united and get themselves prepared to teach Indian leaders a good lesson which they shall never forget for the generations to come. Hundreds of old Aligarhians soldiers are still alive in Indo-Pakistan, and we shall not hesitate to lay down our last drop of blood to save Pakistan and Islam. Let the great soul of late Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of Muslim University guide us and give us courage and unity to die for the cause of Almighty Allah.
